Bar code / permi readers

We are looking into adding the ability for devices to scan permits via bar
code readers ( or other technology) via our application. Are there any
software 'plugins' to use the camera, is this technology usable in the real
world. What other developments / hardware or software have you guys used.

I have found and tested the demo app and it looks like it will do the job in
hand

Steve I tried using the camera. To me it was terrible.

We use the Socket scanner. The one with the lazer works great.
