jConnect is packaged with the SDK for OpenClient, the ASE dataserver
and the ASA dataservers. So the thing you want to talk to and test
with, should have a jConnect version packaged with it. It is a type 4
driver so you could take it from one platform to another.

If you don't have any of the dataserver, it will be hard for you to
test, but you could certainly download a demo copy and use the
jConnect from it.

I'm little bit confused :) we installed Demo version of ASA 9.01 and I
expected to find jConnect 6.0 in Sybase\Shared\ folder but found only
jConnect5_5. Any ideas?

I suppose that iAnywhere and jConnect 6.0 are the same. Am I wrong?

The iAnywhere JDBC driver is NOT JConnect 6. It is a type 2 driver (meaning
it is not pure java and relies on the other ASA libraries installed on the
machine). It contains specific optimizations for Adaptive Server Anywhere
and is the recommended JDBC interface to ASA if you do not require a pure
java (ie. type 4) driver.

SQL Anywhere 9.x tests and ships with JConnect 5.5. If testing doesn't
reveal any problems, a future maintenance release may ship with JConnect 6.

jConnect 6.0 will release very soon - it is currently not Generally
available (only 5.5).
It should release in a month or so. At this point use 5.5 and set the
JCONNECT_VERSION
to 6.

I did see jConnect 6.0 in 12.5.2 which was released in Apr.
So, when you said "jConnect 6.0 will release very soon", do
you mean the driver shiped with 12.5.2 is not officailly
released? Is there any issue with that one? I'm wondering
when 6.0 will be GA.

Thanks.

Hello Xin

We are in the process of setting up the standalone jConnect 6.0 download. It
does exist today, so ASE 12.5.2 is essentially the only way to get this
today. We appreciate your patience and we'll post an announcement when the
standalone download is posted.

Regards.

J is correct - as of this time there is no standalone download - the only
way to get jConnect 6.0 now is via the ASE 12.5.2 distribution/upgrade

Still not available by today (10/13/2004)? Does it mean
jConnect 6.0 is not fully supported? As we are in the
beginning of the next cycle, we need to make a decision if
or not our product should support jConnect 6.0 or 5.5.

Please help me out. Thanks.

Hi Xin Li,

I think it would be good for you to call 1-800 4 SYBASE (1 800 479 2273) and
have them open a case for you so you can talk to tech support on this -
maybe they could jar up the jConnect 6.0 for you so you can get this.
