Has any one looked into developing a Java-based Console or Dashboard for
monitoring interfaces or at SNMP monitoring tools? We would like to develop
a Dashboard tool for non-interface groups in our department, to assist them
in knowing when interfaces may be down, (e.g. help-desk operators,
application support personnel, etc). Anyone having an interest in this
area can contact me.

We have developed a Windows service for receiving Impact
SNMP traps and polling the SNMP service for it's 'Global
Console' information. Traps are stored in the windows
eventlog. Global Console (subset) information is displayed
in a web interface. Custom scripts can be included to
perform actions (triggered by trap events or timer). Scripts
are writen in pascal and perform basic functions like
sending e-mail and cnc commands. This toolkit is under
development but runs stable at several of our production
locations. If anyone is interested I can e-mail some
screenshots.

I'm considering writing something similar in perl, to run on the same
machine (Sun Solaris) as the interface engine. It would page or email
on-call people, either directly or via BMC Remedy, when something occurs
requiring attention. In addition, it would allow status monitoring via a
web browser.
I've done something similar for Impact v4 (using DFCs), but haven't yet
converted the monitoring program to v5 (using SNMP).

I would be interested in screen shots, etc. for the tool you have. We are
planning to put something together in Java, using SNMP.
Thanks!
