Has anyone certified this driver under Windows 7? I have
been trying to prove my application on this platform, but I
get a TypeInitialisationException for the
Sybase.Data.AseClient.AseConnection object.

Hi

This hasn't been certified for Windows 7.

However post the entire stack - sounds like you're having trouble locating a
DLL.

What exact version and are you using 1.1 or 2.0 Provider?

Hi Paul, thanks for responding.
My requirement was to validate my application, designed and
built for Windows XP, under Windows 7. I am currently using
Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer, and I use the
Sybase ADO drivers from ASE 15.0.1.
My install package is designed to deliver just the drivers I
need for connectivity, rather than requiring the whole
Sybase Windows Client installed, and it runs just fine on
XP. I haven't tried Vista, it seems like nobody is bothering
with this OS.
As a round about way of proving my application or package
aren't the cause here I tried installing the full Sybase
Client, and despite the fact that it appeared to install
correctly, Sybase Central would not run at all, it crashes
with a Java null reference error.
It is worth noting that my testing environment adds another
wrinkle to the problem, I am using an install of Windows 7
on a Virtual PC which allows me to quickly refresh the
environment for deployment testing. I have not tried
deploying to a native Windows 7 machine, it hadn't so far
occurred to me as Windows 7 runs just fine in virtual.
The only two dlls that I use are Sybase.Data.AseClient.dll
(deployed to the GAC) and sybadodrv115.dll
I would be grateful for any insights you might have thanks
Paul
regards
Ross

Hi Ross,

We won't be certified for a little while - certifiers here generally wait
for release on the Operating
System before it's certified. At this time - you're using the 1.1
Provider - it should work with
.NET 3.5 - what is the full stack of the problem? Maybe it'll shed some
light.

Have you tried the 2.0 Provider (and please post the file versions - I don't
have records of
what the ASE PC Clients release - 15.0.1 might be sort of "old")

2.0 is Sybase.AdoNet2.AseClient.dll , along with sybdrvado20.dll.

Hello again Paul.

I had hoped to be able to provide some news regarding this
problem after having downloaded and installed the latest
version of the PC Client software V15.0.2. The two drivers
you mention had been updated (I currently run them as file
version 1.15.50.0).

I was expecting that the update client would contain the
newer drivers that you alluded to in you previous reply, but
alas, the drivers it contains are: sybadodrv115a.dll file
version 1.15.152.0 and still the originally named
Sybase.Data.AseClient.dll file version 1.15.152.0.

So while the file versions are new, the files I was
expecting were not present. Can you provide any
enlightenment?

regards
Ross

Hi Ross,

Are you able to download the SD K(Software Developer's Kit) 15.0 ESDs?

Latest release is ESD#19, in which the provider versions 1.15.353.0 (both
1.1 and 2.0)

On the 15.0 install there should be 2 different ADO.NET Providers:

ADO.NET 1.1 Provider: Sybase.Data.AseClient.dll
ADO.NET 2.0 Provider: Sybase.AdoNet2.AseClient.dll [with sybdrvado20.dll]

On Windows 7.0 I would think you should use ADO.NET 2.0 version in the
application.
I'm not sure why this problem occurs - what's the error you get from all
this?

Are both these providers in the GAC?

Thank you,

-Paul
