This does makes sense (however I would have thought the
install would take this into consideration), since a file in
the gac would search the path for aseado.dll as well as the
current folder in the gac, whereas aseado.dll is in
c:\sybase. Putting aseado.dll in the system32 directory
works, is this your recommendation as well, and if it is,
what are your thoughts on doing this during your
installation to avoid this?
How did you install this? The SDK 12.5.1 should have setup your system so
that %SYBASE%\ADO.NET\DLL is on the search path.
Also - consider getting SDK 12.5.1 ESD#05 (5th release patch since the
12.5.1 SDK release). The Provider DLL name has changed from aseado.dll to
sybdrvado11.dll. You will want this Provider since it is improved.
If this PATH is not installing on your machine, what Operating system are
you using?

If you install ESD#5 the Sybase.Data.AseClient.dll will be using
sybdrvado.dll

It is EBF 12117 - you should be able to search that on the Sybase website.
It would be:
Then look under Software Developer Kit then under Platform: WinNT (yeah they
have it listed like this - "generic for the Win32 platforms)
Then you should see EBD 12117. The ESD05 patch is in here.
Sorry for not providing the detail - the SDK is the Software Developer
Kit - the Open Client, E/SQL, jConnect, ODBC driver, OLEDB Provider, ADO.NET
Provider - all used for developing apps for Sybase ASE.
12.5.1 was the last major release and for each level of patch we label as
ESD # X, X being the patch level. So ESD #05 is the 5th level of patch -
however I space out that folks in the public domain have no idea what an ESD
number really is - and I forget to add the actual EBF # (EBF 12117 in this
case).
However - follow the link instructions above - I did a search for EBF12117,
12117 and nothing comes up! I will need to discuss this in order to find
out why folks can't search for these patches.

In addition to search by ebf numer - I could find EBF # 12008, but not
12117 - I think someone needs to add to the search engine - I will look into
this and when I post I will use EBF #'s since that would be the best way for
folks to search the patches.

There is going to be a new search engine on the Sybase website soon (not
exactly sure when) and this should take care of the search problem. Sorry
for the inconvenience. If you stiull notice a problem , like when the next
EBF patch is out that you need, then post it here in the newsgroup or call
