Hi,

I've searched in a few docus but I'm not able to figure out
how I install an unserved license file _after_ a complete
SYBASE 15.0 installation.

The server is up and running but in the log file there are
entries that ASE will shut down in 30 days. OK, that's
correct.

While installing there was a question which license I have,
but I chosed that as "unknown" because I want to "post
install" it. Now I've got the license file ( I think it is
called an evaluation license file because it works for 90
days ).

Any hints would be appreciate.

Regards,

Heinz

You have to login into the sybase product download center :
https://sybase.subscribenet.com/
Chose the ASE edition you want to generate the key for,
Generate the license key,
put the file in the <installdir>/ASE-nnn/SYSAM-nnn/licenses directory.
Set the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable to this file in the RUN script
and restart the server.

Luc,

thanks for responding.

I've placed the parameter in RUN server file and in .profile
of sybase user, but with no improvement.

Here are some further infos:

Yes. If it was generated by sybase, it's best to let them verify.
I suppose the license will be for a specific host, so you must
have given sybase the hostid of the machine you're starting
ase on.

Also, your SYBASE_ASE_DE.lic has a more recent date than
you set your license file to (pri910_200810211157.lic).
I guess that's just something you tried today but isn't working
either.

Luc.

Hi,

because the agreement with SYBASE was that they generate a key for 90 days,
I thought that I got an evaluation license file. But I got an "SR" license file.
The SR is an entry inside the license file.

The second fault was to install the un-servered license file in mode "UNKNOW",
because I thought I could change it after the installation. This may be possible,
but I don't know how. So I've made a fresh installtion and chose "SR ...".
After installation I copied the license file to ../SYSAM-2.0/licenses and
everything went find.

Regards,

Heinz

If you can get the dataserver up and running you can use the sp_lmconfig stored proc to change your license type.

If for some reason the dataserver will not start up then you can modify the 'LT=...' line in the
$SYBASE/ASE-15_0/sysam/<dataserver_name>.properties file to match the 'LT=...' string from the license file, then start
up the dataserver.

NOTE: If there is no 'LT=...' line in the <dataserver_name>.properties file you should be able to add it (before or
after the 'PE=...' line).

On Oct 27, 6:11 pm, "Mark A. Parsons"

you need to include in your .profile the PATH for the sybase licenses
e.g. - I had the same problem but now is ok

LM_LICENSE_FILE=/u01/app/sybase/SYSAM-2_0/licenses/
host_200803050736.lic:$LM_LICENSE_FILE export LM_LICENSE_FILE

Actually, in ASE 15.0.x you should not need LM_LICENSE_FILE if you are
referencing a file in the $SYBASE/SYSAM-2_0/licenses directory - ASE looks
there by default. However, if you are using multiple license servers (not
the 3-node failover), then you can use LM_LICENSE_FILE such as
host1@27000,host2@27000.
