The resolution of the media is also an important component to consider. To enjoy the true benefit of a higher resolution, you should have high-resolution content handy. For example, you may stream a 1080p feed or vice versa, in a 4k or UHD TV, but you will not gain anything significant from either use.

There are two different types of video resolution. They could be classified as Standard Definition or SD and High Definition or HD. The 640360 and 640480 for video and 720480 and 720576 for DVD are the most popular standard resolutions. For HD video popular resolution is 1280720 (720p) or 19201080 (1080p). The resolution 1080p is also known as Full HD or FHD. Here is a concise form of various sorts of video resolution for better understanding.

1080p is usually known as FHD of Full HD resolution which has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels with a progressive scan. This resolution delivers a full 2.07 million pixels picture with a display aspect ratio of 16:9. This is most popular among people and this is the best selling TV format in the current era. The 1080p mainly describes the resolution and does not indicate the frame rate for video feed or refresh rate for displays. These are surrounded by different standards of video-encoding or broadcasting and generate a 1080 resolution content or image.

TV or display manufacturers are already started to declare the availability of their 8k models. Samsung, for example, had already introduced an 8K model in the market in 2018, has recently declared the availability of its 2019 QLED TVs, which include the Q900, available in sizes ranging from 65 to 98 inches, and with a starting price at just $5,000.00. Another manufacturer name LG, has also announced it is going to start selling OLED and LED TVs with 8K resolution in the market, however, the prices have not declared yet. Another world famous brand Sony is going to be released its 8K Z9G series 85-inch and 98-inch in the market. At the same time, TCL showed off its 8K Roku TV at CES, which is expected to available in the market this year, hopefully, it will be a most affordable 8K TV in the market. It is quite true that even a year ago, the number of 8K contents were unavailable to watch at home, though you had an 8k TV, but, now things are changing, though the changes are quite very slower.

1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence.

1080i differs from 1080p, where the p stands for progressive scan, where all lines in a frame are captured at the same time. In native or pure 1080i, the two fields of a frame correspond to different instants (points in time), so motion portrayal is good (50 or 60 motion phases/second). This is true for interlaced video in general and can be easily observed in still images taken of fast motion scenes. However, when 1080p material is captured at 25 or 30 frames/second, it is converted to 1080i at 50 or 60 fields/second, respectively, for processing or broadcasting. In this situation both fields in a frame do correspond to the same instant. The field-to-instant relation is somewhat more complex for the case of 1080p at 24 frames/second converted to 1080i at 60 fields/second; see telecine.

Some cameras and broadcast systems that use 1080 vertical lines per frame do not actually use the full 1920 pixels of a nominal 1080i picture for image capture and encoding. Common subsampling ratios include 3/4 (resulting in 1440x1080i frame resolution) and 1/2 (resulting in 960x1080i frame resolution). Where used, the lower horizontal resolution is scaled to capture or display a full-sized picture. Using half horizontal resolution and only one field of each frame (possibly with added anti-alias filtering or progressive capture) results in the format known as qHD, which has frame resolution 960x540 and 30 or 25 frames per second. Due to the chosen 16x16 pixel size for a compressed video packet known as a macroblock as used in ITU H.261 to H.264 video standards, a 1080-line video must be encoded as 1088 lines and cropped to 1080 by the de-compressor. The 720-line video format divides perfectly by 16 and therefore does not require any lines to be wasted.

Over the past couple of years, the need for a great webcam has increased significantly. Many of us now work from home, and virtual meetings have become much more common. Even spending time with family has to be done virtually sometimes, so it's more important than ever to have a great webcam. While you can buy external webcams that are fantastic, that can be a clunky solution, so we've rounded up the best laptops you can buy that have 1080p (or higher) cameras built-in, so you don't need any peripherals.

Thankfully, in 2023, many companies are finally starting to realize the importance of great webcams, and so it's become much easier to find great laptops with great cameras. With that being said, it can be that much harder to choose one, so here are our recommendations.

The 2022 Lenovo Yoga 9i is a fantastic laptop in almost every way, and we said as much in our review. This is probably Lenovo's best consumer laptop of the past few years, and it gets so much right, from the design to the display and, of course, that 1080p webcam at the top.

Above that display, of course, is a 1080p webcam, which means you're going to look much better during video calls than you would with a 720p camera. It also support Windows Hello facial recognition, so unlocking your PC is easier than ever. You do get a fingerprint reader as well if you prefer that, though.

If you want one of the absolute lightest laptops around but without sacrificing performance or that 1080p webcam, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro is the answer to your needs. After the initial Galaxy Book Pro left a pretty good impression overall. its successor is an improvement in almost every way, all while keeping the ridiculously thin and light form factor.

Naturally, the laptop does come with a 1080p webcam, another notable upgrade from the previous generation, it also has a wider field of view than before. Samsung also includes some software that lets you tweak how you look during calls, so you can always be confident in how you present yourself. Unfortunately, there's no Windows Hello facial recognition support on this laptop, so the fingerprint reader is your go-to for biometric authentication.

Ultimately, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro is definitely one of the best laptops around with a 1080p webcam. The fact that it packs a powerful processor and a solid selection of ports in such a thin and light chassis is a feat of engineering, and it's almost impossible not to recommend it.

The display is also phenomenal. Apple is one of the first companies to use a Mini-LED panel in its laptops, offering local dimming with 10,000 Mini-LEDs behind the screen. This allows for a very high contrast ratio, pure blacks, and an incredible 1,600 nits of peak brightness, or 1,000 of sustained full-screen brightness. It's also an incredibly sharp display, with the 14-inch model sporting a 3024 x 1964 resolution, while the 16-inch version goes up to 3456 x 2244. The aspect ratio is slightly taller than 16:10.

Whether the MacBook Pro 14-inch is worth it depends entirely on how much performance you need from your laptop. It's not a cheap laptop at all, but it's incredibly fast and efficient, has a fantastic screen, and comes with a great 1080p webcam.

But the real highlight of this laptop is the 16-inch display with a tall 16:10 aspect ratio. This large canvas comes with a stunning OLED panel that produces vibrant colors and true blacks, and on top of that, it's extremely sharp with Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) resolution. That's the only configuration available, too, so you're guaranteed a phenomenal viewing experience. Of course, above that display sits a 1080p webcam with temporal noise reduction, which should ensure you look great during meetings and calls. There's no facial recognition on this model, but you can use the fingerprint reader to sign in with Windows Hello.

The webcam on the HP Spectre x360 is potentially one of the best on this list. Yes, it records in 1080p, but the sensor itself has 5MP resolution, and it has some smart features like auto framing and lighting adjustments so you always look your best. On top of that, the camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition, so unlocking your PC is easier than ever.

The Spectre x360 13.5 is a great convertible, and there aren't a ton of flaws we can point on it. It has a beautiful premium design, a great display, and with the latest model, one of the best 1080p webcams you'll find on a laptop. You can check it out below.

The Surface line of products has always had some of the best 1080p webcams in a laptop, and that's never been more true than with the Surface Pro 9. The 5G model is especially great if you want a great webcam experience, but the Wi-Fi variant has similar camera hardware.

Finally, if you want a laptop that's affordable and still has a 1080p webcam, the Surface Go 3 is your go-to (even if it's technically a tablet). Webcams are usually one of the first things to cut back on with budget devices, but the Surface Go 3 has cameras almost as good as the premium Surface tablets.

As we said above, the webcam also wasn't sacrificed on the Surface Go 3. Like the Surface Pro 8, the Surface Go 3 has a 5MP/1080p webcam, something you won't find on any other laptop at this price, and it also supports Windows Hello facial recognition. On the back, there's another camera, this time an 8MP sensor that also records 1080p video.
