again i need some help :(
after I had problems with RH 7.3 and ASE 12.5.0.1 (ASE_DEV) I switched to
RH 7.2 which is official supported by Sybase....
After a default installation of RH 7.2 and installing the Sybase-RPMs
(everything seems to be OK).
I modify the memmax with 'sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=67108864'
Then I register my ASE_DEV license.
My next step was 'srvbuild'
I try to install the master and sybsystemprocs files in /opt/sybase-12.5/
(home of my sybase-User and user-rights are sybase.sybase, NO
raw-devices!), but again i received a error message for building the
master.dat !!??
The log looks like this:

Which version of glibc do you have on your machine?
(btw - I've had good success with RH 7.3 using the glibc that are
included in that release)

i do the same steps with 7.3 like i do with 7.2 now, but the same result !!
I have NO raw-Devices and i try to create the master and the sybsystemprocs
DBs in /opt/sybase-12.5

thanks for your perfect support in this NG!! :)
i have following glibc-version
rpm -qa|grep glibc
glibc-2.2.4-13
glibc-devel-2.2.4-13
glibc-common-2.2.4-13
i try RH 7.3 before! but i have also the same problem ??
Thx

Strange.
I've installed ASE 12.5 on quite a few RH 7.3 systems, and I've never had
a problem, as long as I remember to set the shmmax value before starting.
Are you doing this on "stock" installations, or have you applied any
changes before installing Sybase?
no, i just finished the installation of RH (german) as a Server (reboot),
set the shmmax , create user sybase (home is /opt/sybase-12.5), start KDE,
login as sybase, check the enviroment ($SYBASE etc.) and start the
installation of the Database....
Remember, i try to install ASE 12.5.0.1 DEV on RH 7.3 and 7.2, both are
unsuccessfull!
any idea?

Sorry - no.
Try to post this same information on the ase-linux-list (see my homepage
for subscription information). There are a few Sybase engineers who hang
out on that list, and they may be able to give you more specific answers.

I am running now a version on RH7.3 but it is installing very very slow.
My version on RH7.2 runs fine.

Look at sysctl(8) and /etc/sysctl.conf. That's a much better way of
managing kernel parameters.
