I recently upgraded to version 12.5.0.2 (EBF 10581 IR) and installed an XP
server using the srvbuildres utility. The srvbuildres utility did not
produce any errors during the installation/configuration of the XP server.
However, whenever I start the dataserver I get the following error.

00:00000:00009:2002/12/28 22:48:14.15 kernel nspacket: send, Connection
refused

00:00000:00009:2002/12/28 22:48:14.17 server Error: 7215, Severity: 18,
State: 1

00:00000:00009:2002/12/28 22:48:14.17 server Can't send to site
'GATEWAY_XP'.

Does anyone know what is causing this error as I am able to connect to the
XP server using the xp_cmdshell stored procedure from within the isql
utility (see log entries generated by initial call to xp_cmdshell below)?

12/28/02 10:49:31 PM XP Server is now running.

00:00000:00010:2002/12/28 22:49:42.98 kernel XP Server started
successfully.

Thanks in advance.

Kirk

In article <4a4AuQv...@forums.sybase.com>, cay...@candw.ky says...

Hi Kirk,

Immediately after starting the dataserver you will receive the error
message until Sybase actually fixes the misleading message. Bottom
line: ignore it and write a letter to Sybase asking them to fix it.

XP Server does not automatically start up when the dataserver starts up, it
starts on the first request to it. If you were to log on to the server and
enter 'xp_cmdshell date' it will start the xp server up and shell out and
run date, sending the feedback to you. If you check the server log after
you run that, you will see something like the following:

01/12/03 02:03:03 AM Interfaces file /opt/sybase-11.9.2/interfaces is
being referred by XP Server.

01/12/03 02:03:03 AM XP Server is now running.

After this, XP server will be running, untill you shutdown the dataserver
again. This has been normal behaviour on all versions since atleast
11.9.2..

Also note that the srvbuildres and srvbuild do not actually install the xp
server, all that is required to have xp server is to have an entry in the
sysservers table and an entry in the interfaces file, so if you forget to
set up xp server from the gui / srvbuildres, you can "install" it at a
later date just by editing the interfaces file and doing a sp_addserver
from the isql cmd line.
