Hello,
I have been advised that the "trunc. log on checkpoint"
option should be turned on for the master database.
How should this be done? As far as I am aware this has to be
done using the system tables.
Is it a risk?

Can you confirm this. I was advised to have this option
turned on for the master database from a sybase consultant
(ireland).
he said it was possible - and necessary - but you can't use
sp_dboption

Hi,
see the sp_dboption in 'system procedure reference manual'. It is clearly
written there -
"The master database option settings cannot be changed." Even if u try it on
master database error like this will appear -
Server Message: Number 17422, Severity 16

Server 'SYBDEV', Procedure 'sp_dboption', Line 186:

The 'master' database's options can not be changed.

(1 row affected)

(return status = 1)

regards

Manoj

I am agree with Manoj, you can not change the master
database option settings, so, the best thing you can do it
is dump tran your master database.

I would suggest you go confirm the info from the guy who gave it to you.
Ask HIM *how* to do this, eh?

In the mean time you could try the following:

- create a stored proc which issues 'dump transaction master with
truncate_only'

- assign this stored proc as a threshold procedure in the master database
(see sp_addthreshold)

The consultant was saying to update the master..sysdatabases.status
column for master...

If your transaction log in master is filling up, then take a look as to
why it is happening.
