You can use srvbuild or srvbuildres binaries ( if you are planning to
use resource file), to create ASE instances If you want to create ASE
instances with different ASE versions, you need to install versions in
different directory. While accessing the particular instance you can
source $SYBASE/SYBASE.csh or the similar file if you are using any
other shell other than csh

If you are running short on memory and they are all using the same software
library, all of the instances can share one backup server. Change the
SYB_BACKUP entry in sysservers to use the existing (first) backupserver created.

No, if you want to use the same installed version of
ASE, you just create a new instance via one of the
configuration methods. Each instance will require
a different name and port number as well as separate
physical devices. You could share the same backup
server if you wish. I gather your ASE license is
valid to allow all this.
