HI Gurus,
What's the way to timeout a specific user in ASE , we have the
following case: our web users are beeing timeout on web browser after
5-7 m in but the jobs which had been submitted are still runing for
hours in ASE , unfortunately we are missing some bits somewhere.
Anything can be configured inside of ASE version 12.5.2
thank you,
Isabella

Isabella,
Your web browser connections to the webserver have nothing to do with your
webserver connections to ASE from ASE's point of view. If you want long
running queries/jobs in ASE to "timeout", then you probably have to use some
kind of resource governer. With that , you might look into
"sp_add_resource_limit".

Kevin is right that this isn't a Sybase ASE specific issue but more of a web
programming issue. Basically, for long running processes, you will want to put
it in the background and have your users (web browsers) periodically ping it so
they don't time out.

Randal Schwartz wrote about this a few years back. Although the example code is
perl CGI, it is pretty straight forward.

hope this helps

Hi Kevin,

Sorry my fault for not being more clear:
we want to have ASE if possible killing this connection/queries since
the web users are already gone and are never coming back for results,I
was looking something like a "login timeout " param for specific user,
we are using pool connections for the webserver.

There is no login timeout parameter as such.

There is an sp__idlereap (I think that's the name) proc that is floating
around (original by David Wein, some mods by Rob Vershoor - check Rob's
web site), but this may not work if the spids are still active (i.e.
running queries.) So you may need to consider the resource governor, or
some other programatic way of determining that a connection has been
orphaned at the web server side.
