termdef customization for APT screens

Hi,

We have an application developed in APT. In order to support bi-lingual
(English/Arabic), we are using a bi-lingual terminal emulator under vt220
emulation. When we invoke APT screens under the bi-lingual vt220 emulator,
the box covering the screen appears with different characters. This is
because the escape sequence used by APT to draw a box is clashing with the
character mapping of Arabic emulation.

Basically, we would like to change the terminal capabilities. Can some one
throw light on the steps involved in chaning the terminal capabilities, so
that it is effective in APT screens?
