error during installation of tar.gz archive

Hi,
currently I am using swupdate version 2020.04 with a yocto linux (dunfell release).
I ran into the following error when swupdate should install a compressed archive:
[ERROR] : SWUPDATE failed [0] ERROR handlers/archive_handler.c : extract : 144 : archive_read_next_header(): Pathname can't be converted from UTF-8 to current locale. 1
[ERROR] : SWUPDATE failed [0] ERROR handlers/archive_handler.c : install_archive_image : 337 : copyimage status code is -14
I’ve also experimented with the CONFIG_LOCALE within the defconfig, but that did not help to solve the issue.
Do you have any idea what the problem is?

This was once reported to the Mailing List, I have found the old thread:

it seems an issue inside libarchive, in the thread there are some hints
how to avoid it (setting LC_). CONFIG_LOCALE should do this, it is maybe
insufficient in your case.
But I have a dunfell project with pITX-imx8m, I have not seen this (I
have never seen this issue myself, I know just from ML).

It is related to Locale - as you are the one who can reproduce it, you
can maybe follow the thread and try setting locale before running
SWUpdate, and check if this helps.

can maybe follow the thread and try setting locale before running

also make sure your system has a UTF-8 locale of some sort installed:
Environment=LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8

Hi James,
thanks for your support. I was able to solve the issue by installing and setting a utf-8 locale.
As I am using yocto I had to set the variable IMAGE_LINGUAS = "de-de" within the image recipe.
I also had to set export LANG=de_DE.UTF8 in the environment before installing the file.
