I haven't researched the windows printing issue, but I can tell you that Linux is worse. There are problems with either SWT or cairo (the rendering engine on Linux that SWT uses) that make everything render just huge. I use Linux day to day for a year now, and still haven't found a workaround.
I suggest as a troubleshooting measure on Windows, to modify your test snippet (with the very large font) to wrap the TextPrint in a BorderPrint with a LineBorder. Send us a PDF or image of the printout and hopefully that will tell us something to go on.
