A few updates:
1) Sanna will be teaching a classic clinic this Saturday at the
Chama Chile Ski Classic (you do have to sign up for this clinic through their
registration page here!). Sanna's clinic will begin at 11:30am at the start area (Rookie race is at 1pm, so come up, get some tips from Sanna and then ski the Rookie race!)
2)
Here is the link to the course location - note it is NOT in Chama proper, in fact it's about 3mi into CO. Cell reception tends to be bad there, so do look at the map and download instructions before you head there.
3) Please do consider skiing classic only and tell your friends! The grooming resources are strained in Chama due to some injuries at the moment and with the snow forecast for tonight and all of Thu it would be difficult to make a proper skating surface - we are encouraging them to focus on just making the classic track. Those of you who have done this race before know it's always very soft and tends to get new snow right before the race day making it nearly impossible to provide a stiff groomed surface.
4) speaking of grooming surface being soft: you will definitely want bigger baskets on your ski poles for this event or you will be getting a great core workout poling down through all the way to your ankle, so bring out your backcountry poles or change the baskets on your race poles!
5) and trust me - this event is totally worth it even with soft grooming and loads of new snow! It's not only beautiful and historic, but it's always epic (grooming included) and it is most certainly one of the oldest xc ski races in the country!!! Definitely a bucket list item that will make you proud to have participated.
And it does not matter if you 'race' otherwise - there is a knicker and wood ski category, there is a rookie race, there are awards for oldest participants in each race - it really is for everyone and really shows what sets NM apart in xc skiing - everyone is welcome and everyone has fun - come out and join the fun and the camaraderie! 😍NM🌶️🌶️🥰
