Fall trail work and group activities

Hi All! 

Fall is here and I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think about skiing!

It's time to start getting the trails in shape for snow. One of our big tasks is to clear the aspen and locust shoots that have grown up over the summer. Let's meet for a group effort this Sunday, October 12 at 10 am.

Bring hiking shoes, snacks, water, gloves, and clippers/loppers. If you have battery-powered hedge trimmers, those work great.

Can't make it at that time? You can always pick a small section and clip some errant shoots while hiking at any time.

Also, we will be starting some open practices for the group. They will be:

Tuesday: Hill bounding. Meet at 5:30pm at the Central Park across the road from Bathtub Brewery. Bring hiking poles and water. This is an open practice for all U14 and older. If you are younger than that, you need to have a parent with you.

Wednesday: Agility at 5:30pm at Western Area Park. This is also an open practice for U14 and older.

Hi All,

A youth crew has been working on our trails and cleared many of the aspen and locust shoots on the main hiking trails, but don't worry, there is still plenty for us to do on the more ski-specific trails!

So the plan is still for shoot cutting tomorrow, meeting at Camp May Rd at 10. Bring gloves, clippers and/or loppers, or battery-powered hedge trimmers.

Forecast is for rain in the morning, so we'll plan to start at 10, but if it looks awful we might wait an hour or two. I'll update.

What a turnout, guys! I saw at least 2 dozen SWNSC folks up at the trails today, and I know there are a few that I missed. Also it was a beautiful fall day up there. Pretty much all of the trails have had at least a couple of passes at this point. This is a great start! Usually in early November we do fence hanging, so keep an eye out for that next.
