1. Celebrate East Knoxville This Friday
Town Hall East has invited all the neighborhood associations and watches in East Knoxville to an evening Celebrating East Knoxville. The free event will be this Friday, Sept. 30, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum,
2743 Wimpole Ave.
BBQ has been donated by Archers and a beverage from a local craft brewery, Last Days of Autumn.
The evening will be mostly for socializing – meeting and talking to neighbors, with music provided by a jazz trio.
A brief program will highlight some of the many good things going on in East Knoxville neighborhoods. Rev. Reneé Kesler, Oba Ajanaku, J.D. Jackson and Bailey Foster will talk about what the Beck Center, Drums Up Guns Down, SEEED, and Real Good Kitchen are doing
to enrich the East Knoxville community. In addition, representatives of East Knoxville-based organizations The Bottom, the Shora Foundation, The Women LLC, Connect Ministries and New Direction, and BattleField Farm and Garden will be on hand to answer questions
about their programs.
If you have questions, contact David Lee by email at
townha...@gmail.com. |

4. Public Officer Hearing Meets This Week
The Public Officer Hearing (POH) will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, at 9:30 a.m., in the Small Assembly Room of the City County Building, 400 Main Street, and online via Zoom.
New Business/Orders will address: 1615 Dora St., 5100 Fleetwood Cir., 1610 Jourolman Ave., 421 Oakcrest Rd., 217 East Scott Ave., and 1508 Wilder Pl.
Board Approvals will address: 408 Ambrose St., 204 East Caldwell Ave., 2561 East Fifth Ave., 1201 Forest Ave., 1205 Forest Ave., 1800 Mingle Ave., and 2910 Woodbine Ave.
If any of these properties are in your neighborhood, you or someone from your neighborhood organization may wish to speak on the current situation.
To view the agenda, please click
here.
Anyone wishing to speak in person or via Zoom, should contact Cheri Burke in advance at
cmb...@knoxvilletn.gov.
The Better Building Board (BBB) will not meet this week.
The BBB hears appeals of the Public Officer's orders. The BBB holds hearings and may affirm or alter the Public Officer's order. If the property owner does not comply with the BBB’s order, the City may repair or demolish, alter, improve, secure, board, or vacate
and close the structure and bill the owner for the service. A lien can also be placed against the property to recover expenses for repair or demolition. The property owner may appeal the BBB's order to the Knox County Chancery Court. The BBB may also hear
cases regarding the city’s acquisition of property or the enforcement of the Demolition by Neglect Ordinance.
After the Neighborhood Codes Enforcement office issues complaints to property owners regarding structures that are alleged to be unfit or dangerous, the Public Officer holds hearings and issues orders to property owners to make repairs or to demolish unfit
structures. If the property owner does not comply with the order, the city may also repair or demolish the structure and bill the owner for the service. A lien can also be placed against the property to recover expenses for repair or demolition. The Public
Officer may also order an owner to alter, improve, secure, board, or vacate and close a structure. The property owner may appeal the Public Officer's order to the BBB within 10 days of receipt of the order.
The City of Knoxville ensures meaningful access to City programs, services and activities to comply with Civil Rights Title VI and ADA Title II laws and reasonably provides: translation, interpretation, modifications, accommodations, alternative formats, auxiliary

6. Ride with Elected Officials and Bike Walk Knoxville
Join local elected officials, business owners, and community members on a North Knoxville bike tour of the Caswell and First Creek greenways with Bike Walk Knoxville on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The ride will start promptly at 6 p.m. and will begin and end at the Cansler Family YMCA, 616 Jessamine St. The ride will be approximately 5 miles and should take no longer than an hour. After the ride, participants and others are invited to Last Days of Autumn
Brewing, where $1 per pint sold will go to support Bike Walk Knoxville.
This tour will be a great opportunity to learn how funding and policy impact infrastructure for biking and walking in our community and engage with community members on important issues like making our streets safe for all people.
