6.  Tennessee Tree Day Rescheduled for March 29

The Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) has rescheduled Tennessee Tree Day to Saturday, March 29, due to frozen conditions since the start of the new year which has delayed the tree harvest.

To reserve trees, visit TEC’s website. The last day to reserve trees is now, Sunday, March 16. Once reserved, you will pick up your trees on Friday, March 28, or Saturday, March 29.

Every year, Tennessee Tree Day engages thousands of volunteers in a fun, family-friendly day event of planting native tree seedlings all across Tennessee. TEC partners with the Tennessee Department of Forestry and local nurseries to distribute native tree seedlings through the KKB network of volunteers and businesses.

Since 2007, Tennessee Tree Day has mobilized over 100,000 residents to plant more than one million native trees across Tennessee and neighboring states. Plant a native tree and make your community a little greener.

7.  KCHD Offers Heart Healthy Series

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) is hosting a Heart Healthy series on Thursday, March 13, and Thursday, March 20, from 6–7 p.m. at the KCHD Community Room, 140 Dameron Ave.

Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women, but you can do a lot to protect your heart and stay healthy.

Heart-healthy living involves understanding your risk, making healthy choices, and taking steps to reduce your chances of getting heart disease, including coronary heart disease, the most common type. By taking preventive measures, you can lower your risk of developing heart disease that could lead to a heart attack. You can also improve your overall health and well-being.

Making healthy lifestyle changes may feel overwhelming at first, but you are never too young or too old to start taking care of your heart health. That's why the Knox County Health Department offers a free heart health series to help.
