1.  Deadline to Register for National Night Out is Friday

National Night Out is a grassroots initiative for neighborhoods to celebrate law enforcement and first responders. Knoxville neighborhoods are celebrating on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

If your neighborhood is hosting a celebration, please contact Debbie Sharp no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, at dsh...@knoxvilletn.gov with the following information:

  • Name of your neighborhood
  • Contact name
  • Contact email
  • Contact phone number
  • Date of event
  • Location of event
  • Time of event
  • What you plan to do

Currently, these nine neighborhoods are participating: Amherst Helmbolt Community Association, Marble City Neighborhood Organization, Northwest Hills Safety Community Group, Norwood Homeowners Association, Old North Knoxville, Inc, South Woodlawn Neighborhood Association, Vestal Community Organization, and Westavia Woods Neighborhood Watch. Williams Creek Community Association will be participating with Lennon-Seney United Methodist Church.

Let’s see how many more neighborhoods we can get to celebrate our local police department, fire department, and other first responders.

Neighbors are also invited to the City’s first National Night Out Kick-Off event on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 4-6 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex, 1650 Huron St. There will be free food, games, giveaways, and opportunities to thank KPD, KFD, and first responders.

Read the news release for more information. You can also RSVP on Facebook to share with your friends and family.
2.  Attend the Wiffleball Tournament This Saturday

The Seventh Annual Neighborhood Wiffleball Tournament, hosted by the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment, is this Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Caswell Park, 620 Winona St.

Five amazing neighborhood teams will battle for bragging rights: Oakwood Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, Parkridge Community Organization, Timbercrest Neighborhood Association, West Hills Community Association, and Westwood Homeowners Association.  This event is a fun way for neighbors and neighborhoods to interact and get to know one another and a chance to earn bragging rights for the whole year.

The winning team will get their picture with the new Wiffleball Cup and VIP status at one of Knoxville’s coolest award dinners, The Neighborhood Awards Dinner, in spring of 2025.

Good luck to all the players, teams, and neighborhoods! Join us while cheering on the neighbors.

7.  Share Your Thoughts on What Knoxville Needs

The City's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department requests your participation to share what you think the needs of Knoxville are in terms of:

  • Affordable Housing
  • Preventing and Ending Homelessness
  • Economic Development
  • Neighborhood Revitalization
  • Public Infrastructure Improvements
  • Public Services

Surveys are available in English and Spanish and are due by Thursday, Oct. 31.

The Consolidated Plan is designed to help the City assess affordable housing and community development needs and market conditions, and to make data-driven, place-based investment decisions. The Consolidated Plan serves as the framework for a community-wide dialogue to identify housing and community development priorities that align and focus funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s Community Planning and Development (CPD) formula block grant programs.

The 2025-2029 (five-year) Consolidated Plan, that sets HUD funding priorities from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029, is due to HUD next May.

Through the Consolidated Plan, the City will engage the community, both in the process of developing and reviewing the proposed plan and as partners and stakeholders in the implementation of CPD programs. By consulting and collaborating with other public and private entities, grantees can align and coordinate community development programs with a range of other plans, programs and resources to achieve greater impact.
