South Woodlawn Recognized National Night Out - October 3rd

Greetings neighbors!

In place of our normal bi-monthly meeting in September, our neighbors will be recognizing National Night out on October 3rd. Our esteemed NNO committee has reached across Chapman to partner with Vestal Community Organization to provide a fun evening for all!

We’ll gather in the pavilion at Mary Vestal Park:
 522 Maryville Pike. Join us in making new friends and learning what other neighborhood organizations do. 

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. We also include our firefighters and first responders in our ’THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE’ recognition.

There will be a chili cook-off, hot dogs, a cake walk, a fire truck and more! Weather permitting, the fire truck will spray those who want to get wet from 6:30 - 7:00 - bring a towel! Also, feel free to bring lawn games if you have them and we’ll make space for play time.

We’ll have vegan, vegetarian, and meat-filled food options. If you’d like to enter the Chili Cook-Off for your chance to win the prestigious golden spoon award, please email in...@SWNAKnox.org and someone will be in contact. Plan to bring chili in a crock pot and all the fixin’s to make it a winner! 

NOTE: Proceeds from the Cake Walk will help support Vestal Villas, a program providing independent housing, community, and opportunity to young adults who have aged out of foster care. Learn more about Vestal Villas on their website: vestalvillas.org

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN GETTING THE WORD OUT. We'll soon have flyers ready for distribution throughout the neighborhood. We have 36 streets in our neighborhood that need to have flyers delivered. If you could deliver flyers on the street you live, please contact Debbie Helsley - debbie...@gmail.com - to make arrangements to pick up flyers. As my mother always said, ‘many hands make light work’ - we’d appreciate you lending your hands (and your feet) to place flyers on mailboxes.

Hi everyone,

Bringing a lawn chair might be helpful if we have a lot of people. We have the Pavillion with picnic tables, but there might not have enough.

Also, we are having a chili cook-off. If you want to compete let us know at the same email above. We already have several competitors sign up.
