Greetings neighbors,

Two things…

1) We will have our bi-monthly neighborhood meeting on Monday, July 28th - 7:00 @ Woodlawn Christian Church.

We are delighted to welcome Orel Brodt, new owner of the Galbraith School property. Orel will attend the meeting along with architect Amy Sherill to show plans for the property. NOTE: if you’ve seen the Planning signs at the property, it’s because the plans will be discussed at the August 14th Planning Commission meeting. We’re excited to see this property put to good use!

Also, July is our ‘back to school’ drive for contributing to schools our kiddos attend. Special request for the following:
  • Clothes washer pods
  • Snacks for the children/treats for special ed kiddos
  • Ticonderoga pencils
  • Kleenes and wipes
  • Cash donations welcome as well
Our school outreach committee also puts together treat baskets for the teacher’s break room. These baskets include pens, snacks, small candy bars, etc. The committee welcomes any items you would like to contribute for these baskets.

We are looking for individuals to help plan the recognition of National Night Out. You can sign up at the meeting OR, send an email to in...@SWNA-Knox.org to volunteer.

Mark your calendar now to join your neighbors for lively conversation, good company AND ice-cold watermelon! We look forward to report from our KPD liaison and Tommy Smith, 1st District City Council representative.

2) We need your help to spread the word about the upcoming meeting. Please reply if you can deliver flyers on your street. I will count out flyers and you can either stop by to pick up or we will get the flyers to you.

It doesn’t take long and this is a great way to inform those who may not be on our listserv. As my Mum always said, ‘Many hands make light work…’ Please help lighten the load of notifying our neighborhood of this meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 28th!

Cheers!
Janice Tocher

Greetings neighbors,

There are two events coming up early next week:

First: A reminder that we will have a neighborhood meeting on Monday, July 28th - 7:00 p.m. @ Woodlawn Christian Church.

We look forward to hearing from Orial Brodt, new owner of Galbraith School property as well as hearing the state of the 1st District from our city council representative and police report from our KPD liaison.

Remember July is our back to school drive - how fortuitous that it’s also tax-free weekend and school supplies are on sale! Here’s what’s needed:

  • Clothes washer pods
  • Snacks for the children/treats for special ed kiddos
  • Ticonderoga pencils
  • Kleenes and wipes
  • Cash donations welcome as well

Our school outreach committee also puts together treat baskets for the teacher’s break room. These baskets include pens, snacks, small candy bars, etc. The committee welcomes any items you would like to contribute for these baskets.

If you would like to contribute but will not be at Monday’s meeting, contact our School Outreach Committee chair, Nancy Lindemer - (865) 599-7686‬.

Second: A reminder that there is a 1st District Candidate Forum happening on Tuesday, July 29th - 6:30 @ South High Senior Living (Tipton Road)

This is a great opportunity to hear from the candidates as they answer questions about the 1st District and City. After the forum, there will be time to meet with the candidates one-on-one.

If you are unable to get out for the forum, it will be live-streamed on the League of Women Voters’ Live Video Facebook page. You can also watch videos of other district forums on that page as well.

NOTE: if you have not registered to vote, Monday is the deadline. Here’s information about how and where to register (TIP: it’s really easy to register online)

I plan to be at both events.  Working on membership bags to bring.
