1.  ONE Updates Neighborhood Funders Guide

The Office of Neighborhood Empowerment (ONE) has updated the Neighborhood Funders Guide, and this resource can be found on ONE’s website.

This guide highlights a selection of potential funding sources for neighborhood groups in Knoxville. There is no guarantee that the grantors on this list will fund your neighborhood project; however, these are potential resources. The priorities of a particular donor may have changed since this information was gathered, and while some funding applications are quite simple and straight-forward, others require a great deal of work and planning, evidence of which the grantor will ask to see.

If you do apply for any of these grants, we would love to hear your experience.  We look forward to seeing what you do in your neighborhoods this year!
2.  NAC Meets Next Week

The City of Knoxville’s Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Public Works Building, 3131 Morris Ave.

Office of Neighborhood Empowerment (ONE) staff will discuss new operating guidelines and gather feedback from NAC members on topics of interest for the upcoming year.

The NAC members are appointed by the Mayor to:
  • Give advice and feedback on the programs and policies of the Office of Neighborhoods
  • Bring neighborhood issues and concerns to the attention of the Mayor and City
     Administration
  • Propose to the Administration responses and solutions to address these concerns
  • Serve as a sounding board for City initiatives and proposals that impact neighborhoods.
The City of Knoxville ensures meaningful access to City programs, services, and activities to comply with Civil Rights Title VI and ADA Title II laws and reasonably provides translation, interpretation, modifications, accommodations, alternative formats, auxiliary aids and services.

To request language translation services, contact the City’s Human Resources Department at tit...@knoxvilletn.gov or 865-215-3100. For disability accommodations, contact City ADA Coordinator Stephanie Brewer Cook at sc...@knoxvilletn.gov or 865-215-2034 at least 72 hours before the meeting.

3.  Mayor’s Office Grants Due Feb. 21

The City of Knoxville’s Mayor’s Office will be closing the application period for two grants on Friday, Feb. 21, by 4 p.m.

  1. Community Agency Grants: Non-profit organizations can apply for a Community Agency Grant if they operate within the City of Knoxville, have been in operation for at least five years, and are registered as charitable organizations with the Tennessee Secretary of State.
  2. Community Agency Grants support non-profit organizations that help the City meet its goals and priorities in two categories: Arts & Culture and Community and Social Services. (Providers of homeless services should apply for the Homeless Grant via Housing and Neighborhood Development.)
  3. Opioid Abatement Grant: The City of Knoxville is committed to addressing the opioid epidemic through its first responders and by supporting non-profits that specialize in this area.

The City of Knoxville is allocating $300,000 for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to provide grant funding to non-profits who provide opioid remediation and prevention services to City of Knoxville residents. These are one-time funds to be utilized between July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026.

This is a competitive process. Some applications may not be funded, and some may be only partially funded. Your organization may apply for Opioid Settlement Funds if it operates within the City of Knoxville, has been in operation for at least two years and has current registration as a charitable organization with the Tennessee Secretary of State.

For more information, contact Jennifer Searle at 865-215-2267 or JSe...@KnoxvilleTN.gov

4.  Community Health Assessment – Submit Your Feedback

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) requests that neighbors complete the Community Health Assessment (CHA) Survey by Wednesday, Feb. 5.

This survey aims to gather community input on health priorities in Knox County. The KCHD will use the results of this survey and other data sources to identify the most pressing health needs in the community. Your response will help KCHD and its partners focus efforts on improving health and wellness in Knox County and address areas where action is most needed.

Help make Knox County a healthier place to live, work, and play.
5.  KKB Summit Spotlight: Drew Ramsey

Drew Ramsey will be one of the speakers at the Keep Knoxville Beautiful (KKB) Sustainability Summit taking place on Friday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S Gay St. You can still register for this event on KKB’s website.

Drew Ramsey is the Director of Sales for GAF StreetBond pavement coatings. Drew oversees innovative solutions in decorative paving and coating systems focusing on ADA compliance, durability, and aesthetic value to improve the environment for all.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

6.  World Cancer Day: United by Unique

World Cancer Day is an international day of awareness and action to raise funds, educate the public about cancer, and promote early detection, treatment, and support for people affected by cancer. Every year it is observed on Feb. 4.

This year’s theme for World Cancer Day 2025 is: “United by Unique”. The theme will run for two years. This theme will highlight that cancer is a personal matter and not just a medical diagnosis. It will also aim to shift the focus of healthcare systems to people, not just the disease. This will encourage people to share their unique experiences with cancer, and to work together to create a world where people are seen as individuals, not just patients.

Great ways to spread awareness include sharing your story for World Cancer Day and helping to raise awareness about cancer and available support for those affected.
