Greeting Neighbors,

The South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition (SKNBC) invites the public to an event to increase information and turnout for the August 1 election.

The event will be held July 9th; 6:30 p.m. @ the South Knoxville Senior Living (https://southhighknoxville.com). This facility has been a great community asset and hosted 2 previous SKNBC-sponsored candidate events that were well attended.

All candidates that influence South Knoxville have been invited including US House and Senate, State Senate District 6, State House Districts 15, 18, and 19, County Commission District 9, Criminal Court Judge Division II District 6, Property Assessor, and County Law Director.

The March Primary had low voter turnout and some races were decided by just a few votes. Now, most of the news is about the November presidential election but this August election is in many ways more impactful on citizens of Knox County.

All candidates will have up to 5 minutes to introduce themselves and address three questions:

- Why do you believe you are the best qualified person for the position?
- What do you know about South Knoxville/South Knox County?
- What, if anything, will you do to improve the area?

There will be time after introductions for the public to meet and speak with candidates one-on-one.

Light refreshments will be served.

===========

Election Day is August 1 - early voting starts July 12. Make sure you're registered to vote - last day to register is July 2nd.

Janice, Michael Leon Daugherty is a write in candidate for H19.  Siobhan is not on the Democratic ballot as she did not meet the live in Tennessee three years.  Leon is a qualified write in Democratic candidate and needs to be invited to the forum.  Thanks.

THANKS for the heads-up with regards to the write-in candidate.

Leon, since you’re cc’d on this message, I’ll let this serve as an invite if that’s ok. Could you attend a candidate meet ’n greet on July 9th? Here’s the message we sent to the candidates with regards to the event.

=============

Thank you for running in the upcoming Knox County General and Federal/State Primary election. It is a very important election that often gets overlooked in such a busy election year.

Several important contests will be decided on August 1. The March Primary had low voter turnout and a couple races were decided by single digits. Now most of the news is about the November presidential election but this August election is in many ways more impactful on citizens of Knox County than the presidential election!

The South Knoxville Neighborhood & Business Coalition (SKNBC) is planning an event to increase information and turnout for the August 1 election. We are a non-partisan group representing citizens and businesses in South Knoxville. You make an impact on South Knoxville just by running and we want to help you get the word out about your campaign.

This event will be an opportunity to introduce yourself and say a little about why you are running for State House District 19. Start time will be 6:30, location is South Knoxville Senior Living. There will be refreshments, a sound system, and comfortable seating in a large room.

You will have up to 5 minutes to introduce yourself the audience. Please try to include the following in your introduction:
  • Why do you believe you are the best qualified person for State House District 19.?
  • What do you know about South Knoxville/South Knox County?
  • What, if anything, will you do to improve the area?

    Event date is Tuesday, July 9. If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to send someone in your place that can talk about your campaign.

    We will have space setup after the introductions for a meet and greet so you have an opportunity to speak to attendees individually.

    Please reply to this email by May 20th so we can select a final date for this event and make final arrangements.

    We are grateful for your participation.

    Sincerely,
    Janice Tocher and Lisa Horn
    Co-Chairs SKNBC
