Greetings neighbors,

A representative to South Knoxville Neighborhood & Business Coalition sent the following to share with our neighborhood.

===========

Dear Lisa,

Perhaps you remember my brief remarks about Justice Knox* as an invitee to a neighborhood association meeting you chaired a few years ago.

Since then, Justice Knox has grown considerably and achieved significant support from a number of our elected officials, principally Indyna Kincannon and, last year, Glenn Jacobs.

At our spring assembly in 2024, over 1200 Knoxville residents filled the Civic Auditorium to show their support. Such an impressive "people presence" was hard for our guests to ignore and, I believe, contributed greatly to their support of all three proposals.

Given the fragile political climate we are now experiencing nationally and statewide, it would appear more important than ever to garner the support of local officials for initiatives that could improve the lives of our less fortunate, not to mention voiceless, neighbors.

This year's assembly will be held at the Civic Auditorium on the evening of April 8 with attendees asked to be seated by 6:40 p.m. Parking is free in the garage across the street.

I'm inviting you and Deane to attend because I sense you are supportive of social justice initiatives which, if supported, could improve the quality of life for many of the less fortunate members of our community.

I'd love to see you and Dean there and encourage you to give this invitation serious consideration. The more folks that show up, the better the prospects of achieving support.

I'm attaching a flyer publicizing the event, a list and description of the three initiatives Justice Knox will be asking our elected guests to support, and copies of the registration card (which each attendee must fill out and bring to the meeting). If you have a printer, you can print out the cards, completing one for each attendee and adding my name as the "inviter."

Feel free to use the other copies for friends who might be interested in attending the event.

*Please note that this event is not a religious service, even though Justice Knox is comprised of individuals representing a variety of faith traditions (Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim). It's for anyone concerned about social justice and dedicated to meeting the everyday needs of our less fortunate neighbors (check out the website at www.justiceknox.org).

In addition, this assembly will be nothing like the town halls we've been seeing in increasing numbers over the last couple of months (i.e., no booing, screaming, name calling, etc.). Just respectful dialogue and sincere requests. All of our elected guests have been informed in advance about what they can expect at the meeting.
