The Office of Neighborhood Empowerment (ONE) will not produce The Neighborly Notice next week because most of ONE staff will be attending the Neighborhoods U.S.A Conference

We will be back in production on Tuesday, May 27.  If you are itching for neighborhood information, visit our Facebook Page and see what other neighborhoods and community groups are doing.

2.  PARC Hosts Listening Session for East District

The Police Advisory Review Committee (PARC) will host their final listening session on Thursday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center, 124 S. Cruze St. This session is for the East District; however, everyone is welcome.

The Knoxville Police Department’s East District encompasses all of East Knoxville and covers portions of North Knoxville, including Fountain City and the Broadway corridor north of Downtown Knoxville. There will be a Q&A portion to address any issues or concerns and light refreshments.

The mission of the Police Advisory and Review Committee (PARC) is to provide community members of the City of Knoxville a civilian oversight committee that audits the discipline process, policies, and procedures of the Knoxville Police Department (KPD).

The City of Knoxville ensures meaningful access to City programs, services, and activities to comply with Civil Rights Title VI and ADA Title II laws and reasonably provides translation, interpretation, modifications, accommodations, alternative formats, auxiliary aids and services.

To request language translation services, contact the City’s Human Resources Department at tit...@knoxvilletn.gov or 865-215-3100. For disability accommodations, contact City ADA Coordinator Stephanie Brewer Cook at sc...@knoxvilletn.gov or 865-215-2034 at least 72 hours before the meeting.

3.  Neighborhood Advisory Council Meets Tomorrow

The Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) will meet tomorrow, May 14, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Public Works Building, 3131 Morris Ave.

NAC members will hear from Fiona McAnally, Director of Government Relations for the City of Knoxville.

Consisting of neighborhood leaders from around the city, the NAC serves in an advisory and partnership capacity to:
  • Give advice and feedback on the programs and policies of the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment,
  • Bring neighborhood issues and concerns to the attention of the Mayor and City Administration,
  • Propose to the Administration responses and solutions to address these concerns; and
  • Serve as a sounding board for city initiatives and proposals affecting neighborhoods.
The NAC advises and provides input only to the Mayor and the City Administration. As a matter of policy, it does not advise Knoxville City Council, Knoxville-Knox County Planning, and other elected and appointed bodies. All are welcome to attend.

4.  Neighborhoods Invited to ONE Neighborhood Social Exchanges

All neighborhood organization volunteers and individuals wanting to organize their communities are invited to the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment’s Neighborhood Social Exchange gatherings.

There are two opportunities to attend this week:
  • Thursday, May 15, from 5-7 p.m. at the Larry Cox Center, 3109 Ocoee Trail
  • Friday, May 16, from 1-3 p.m. at the City County Building, 400 W Main St. Suite 546B.
The Neighborhood Social Exchange is an opportunity for neighborhood leaders to network with one another, provide updated information regarding elections and boundaries to ONE, and to receive information about programming offered by our office. This is also a great opportunity for new groups interested in learning more about organizing their neighborhood.

This exchange of information and ideas will be coupled with food, fun, and games. Come and see what resources and programming are available to you and your neighborhood!

For more information, you can call 865-215-3232 or email Shannett Riley at sri...@knoxvilletn.gov.

Let us know you are coming by RSVPing here!

7.  Parks and Recreation is Seeking Feedback on Master Plan

The Parks and Recreation Department‘s Master Plan is a 10-month community planning process, designed to identify parks and recreation needs in the city, anticipate future demand, and build a shared vision for improvements to the parks and recreation system.

There are two more public meetings:
  • Wednesday, May 14, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Lakeshore Park, 5930 Lyons View Pike
  • Tuesday, May 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church Fountain City Family Life Center (enter off Lynnwood Dr.), 5364 N Broadway St
The plan is designed to:
  • Identify parks and recreation needs in the city
  • Anticipate future demand
  • Build a shared vision for improvements to the parks and recreation system
Knoxville is experiencing population growth, with an estimated increase of close to 10,000 residents in the last five years. This growth requires understanding how all residents, both new and old, can be equitably served by the parks and recreation system, particularly as the city continues to grow.

Parks and Recreation would love to hear your thoughts on improving Knoxville’s parks and recreation programs. Community feedback is a primary goal of the plan, and this feedback will ensure that the plan’s recommendations are citizen-driven.

You can share input in-person, at a public meeting, or a community event, or online at the Knoxville Parks Plan website. Thanks in advance for your input. Happy trails!
