1. Board of Zoning Appeals Meets Today
The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) will have their monthly meeting today in the Small Assembly Room of the City County Building, 400 Main St., at 4 p.m.

2. Housing and Neighborhood Development Seeks Input
The City of Knoxville’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department seeks input on its draft Year Four Annual Action Plan Update to the City’s Five Year Consolidated Plan. The draft plan will be available for a 30-day public comment period beginning Friday,
March 31, at
www.KnoxvilleTN.gov/Development under the “Reports and Plans” tab.
A public meeting to discuss and hear input on the draft plan will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m., at the City’s Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave.
The Five Year Consolidated Plan prescribes the planned local use for three types of federal funds allocated by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Act, and Emergency Solutions
Grant (ESG). The Annual Action Plan Update accommodates for changes in community conditions and needs, funding resources, etc. that impact how federal funds should be allocated for the 2023-2024 program year, starting July 1, 2023.

3. SKNBC Sponsors Conversation on Knoxville’s Tree Canopy
South Knoxville Neighborhood & Business Coalition (SKNBC) is sponsoring a meeting for all South Knoxville neighbors to learn about the
Knoxville Urban Forest Master Plan process and give input on the future of the tree canopy in Knoxville. The meeting will be on Monday, April 10, at 6 p.m. at the Ijams Nature Center Community Room, 2915 Island Home Ave.
There will be time to hear a presentation about the status of trees in the city, as well as matters that will affect the city for many years to come. The presentation will be followed by time for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be served.
4. Save the Date – East Knoxville Community Open House
The City will host an
East Knoxville Community Open House on Tuesday, April 11, 5-7 p.m. at the Jacob Building, 401 Lakeside Dr. The format of the open house will be the same as the open houses held in North and South Knoxville in February.
Residents are welcome to attend any time during the event. City staff and partners will be present to provide information and answer questions about many projects located in East Knoxville including: Magnolia Avenue streetscapes; Burlington streetscapes and
signage; Magnolia / Rutledge Pike / Asheville Highway study; East Knoxville greenway; multi-use stadium project; Morningside Park developments; and more.

5. 2023 Recreation Challenge Grants Announced
Applications are
now available for the Parks and Recreation Department’s annual
Recreation Challenge Grant Program.
This program is available to community groups with a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6) status. Grant recipients will be reimbursed 50 percent of the cost of a single project, up to $3,000 -- an increase from $2,500. In past years, groups have used grant funding
for playground equipment, water fountains, benches, landscaping, and other projects that enhance public property and benefit the general public.
Grant funds can also be used to promote activities in City parks or greenways, and can even be used to match funds for various activities, like yoga.
Applications are due Friday, June 30, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.

6. Keep Knoxville Beautiful Hosts South Knoxville Community Clean-Up
Keep
Knoxville Beautiful (KKB) will host the South Knoxville Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.-12 noon. The event will start from Mary Vestal Park, 522 Maryville Pike.
Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate. All are welcome to join; however,
registration is required. Registration closes on Sunday, April 16, at 11:59 p.m. This helps KKB know how many materials to provide and measure cleanup efforts.
The event rain date is Sunday, April 23, from 9 a.m.-12 noon.

7. Health Department Hosts Spanish Language Diabetes Management Series
The Knox County Health Department will host a three-part series of Diabetes Management classes on Mondays, April 5, 12, and 19, from 6-7 p.m. at the Interfaith Health Clinic, 315 Gill Ave. Instruction will be provided in the Spanish language.
Participants will learn to better manage type 2 diabetes. Each class covers different topics like how to manage with good nutrition, exercise, and medications.

8. Metro Drug Coalition Hosts Virtual Meeting on Youth Substance Misuse
The Metro Drug Coalition (MDC) is hosting a virtual town hall meeting to answer questions about youth substance misuse in our community this Thursday, March 23, from 7-8 p.m. via Zoom.
A panel of experts with a variety of perspectives on how substance misuse is affecting youth in our city will present information and take questions.
Attendees must register for this free event at the
MDC website, where you can get additional details about the event and the panelists and submit questions for consideration.

9. City Council Calls Special Meeting to Discuss SB0526
Knoxville City Council is having a special called meeting Wednesday, March 22, at 6 p.m. in the Small Assembly Room of the City County Building, 400 W Main St., to discuss the Tennessee State Senate Bill - SB0526 - which mandates a change to the way Knoxville
elects it’s district council members without following the course for change and public input as laid out in our city charter. Council will discuss and vote on a Resolution asking SB0526 to be defeated.
