Knoxville SOUP is excited to announce the community projects selected to present at the upcoming SOUP dinner on Tuesday, September 23 at Kerbela Temple in South Knoxville. Guests will enjoy a simple meal, listen to presentations from local changemakers, and then cast their votes to decide which project will receive the evening’s micro-grant.
SOUP is a grassroots event that brings people together to support creative ideas that make Knoxville stronger. Each presenter will share their project in just a few minutes — no slides, no jargon — and the audience decides which proposal should receive funding raised through the dinner.
The projects chosen for the September 23 event are:
- 9th Annual Cattywampus Parade & Block Party (Cattywampus Puppet Council): A free community arts event and associated programming (afterschool residencies, workshops, etc) bringing together diverse and intergenerational cross-sections of our greater Knoxville community to play, create, celebrate, and build relationships with one another.
- "Urban Outposts" Series (Inside of Knoxville): "Urban Outposts" is a new Inside of Knoxville series spotlighting small businesses and neighborhood gems beyond downtown that give each community its character.
- Bashun's Bridge (Knox County Red Book of Resources): to break the stigma surrounding addiction and share the grief over overdose losses by creating a space for education, advocacy, and connection.
- After-School Healthy Cooking Program (Little Chefs, Big Change): Our after-school cooking classes will help South Knox kids build confidence in the kitchen while discovering that cooking healthy food can be fun and delicious.
