You probably have to sign in to unsubscribe and this email address I
used to sign up with long ago isn't registered with google. It's kind
of a pain... I see no way of unsubscribing this email address via the
website. How come the email address to unsubscribe doesn't work?

Any chance of getting this list off Google and somewhere that can nip SPAM in the can?

Well, when I ran it (first with qmail, then mailman), there was tons of spam and lots of work to filter it.   I moved it to Google because they were supposedly better at it.   Then of course, they really weren't and they killed the talk-list because of TOS (spam) violations.   Which was super awesome because I never saw the messages because I use gmail and it *filters* the spam and groups doesn't.   Groups doesn't seem any better at this than anyone else.   Go Google.

I'm kind of at a loss as to where to put it next.   I know I'm busy and dont need the pain of doing it myself.     Any suggestions?

just a thought... Yahoogroups?  Maybe create a test group then fire a bunch of spam at it to see what picks up?  It seems that I don't get tons of spam on the yahoo groups lists I'm part of...

Matt,

I know you're a busy guy, but wouldn't a good solution be to restrict
posts to members and manually approve new members?

I don't get the spam messages either, but it's too bad there isn't
more legitimate use on the list. It would be good if we can find a
way to stop people from jumping ship.

Some people (including myself) may even be willing to volunteer as
moderators if you wanted to turn on message moderation.

I agree with CJ. The settings on this list are not "wise". It
allows anyone to join , and anyone to post.

Matt, if you give me admin rights I can fix that up for you.

3ric,

You and CJ have been promoted.   Feel free to implement wiseness.

My email works.    You can also use the contact form on http://metrixcreatespace.com/ or just bring whatever it is by.

I had wondered what was going on. I preview all my email. And have a
workable filter.[tbrd] so when I see obvious porn I just hit delete Or
junk. I don't look at it. I don't download it. 90% gets junked by my
filter. This list has been mostly inactive for a couple of years. Maybe
it should evolve into a forum. or a facebook group. Or join an existing
one.I am not seeing spam in these venues.

Forums can also suffer from spam (in a big way at times!) That said, I'd
still go for the idea of a forum, that would also bring back the more
active list, as many more sub topics of wireless could get discussed.
Facebook is simply not suitable, way too much malware.

The original mailing list was great, and I was sad to see it move to
yahoo, yahoo tends to host non serious groups - and didn't follow it
thereafter, but left my filters etc in place in the hope it would
re-emerge :)

Forum, we can talk dev stuff, we can talk windows, we can talk linux, we
can talk hardware projects, etc etc etc.

Of course we could always jump to someone elses forum, perhaps something
on one of the openwrt based sites as they're already talking wireless.

Just my 2p

Steve!

Forums also suffer from topic drift and like listservs typically suffer from poor organization and search-ability.
