Im having an issue with my Godox gear, and I often see people referring to updating the Godox firmware. But I'm not sure how to tell if my Godox gear needs to be updated to fix my issue. How do I find out?

Find out what the latest version of the firmware for your device is and what it does, by going to the Godox firmware webpage. The Godox page lists the current version of each firmware image, its release date, and (kinda) describe what it does. If you're interested in what earlier versions do, you must download the .rar archive of the firmware download, and extract the PDF file inside, which has the entire version history in both Chinese and English.

Decide for yourself if you need the update or not. This may hinge on how you interpret the sometimes cryptic (translated) descriptions of the functionality that was fixed or added in the Godox documentation. So, doing a bit of research on messageboards for reports of whether the firmware update does what you think it does may also be in order.

I am running Windows 10 and the Godox website has a firmware update. I have no idea how to do this as apparently I need a .dfu reader. I'm super leery of downloading anything onto my computer (which you designed for me BTW) just wondering if there is a good one out there that you recommend? Apparently, I will also need a zip reader. I think my computer has that already, but maybe not.

I know it sounds crazy (but heck I'm not super computer literate and not trusting of just any site) the Dell tech told me that they couldn't help because it is a 3rd party software. I'm watching videos and even the Godox site that I'm on doesn't resemble the one that they have in the vids so I'm leery.

One more thing apparently I don't have the proper USB c cord to get the firmware from the pc to the wonderful (yes I edited this by this time) trigger. I'm not sure what it is called but it looks like I need a data cord like this, not just a charging cord. What would I ask for at BestBuy?

I think I found a cord but it might not be correct. -4-usb-c-to-usb-a-charge-and-sync-cable-charcoal/6410815.p?skuId=6410815 It's a charge and sync cord. Not sure if that is the same as the data cord. The one I have is just a charging cord for a small hand massager, so pretty sure it's not a syncing type of cord.

To read those .dfu files, you probably need to download the Godox Firmware Launcher Program provided by Godox. They aren't files like a "Zip" file, and you do not use a generic program! I don't own any Godox products, so I'm kinda at a loss. I can tell you, that you need to download the correct Launcher based on what Generation your Godox is. (There should be some sort of label on the device indicating which Generation it is.) Use the USB-C to USB-A Cable, have the Launcher Program detect the device, then select the correct .dfu file, and push the update down to what you are trying to flash.

But there is some hope, using an application called VirtualBox to run a virtual Windows operating system inside your MacOS desktop. This video from photographer Ken Falk walks us through the process of updating his Godox firmware on the Mac.

Firmware upgrading is for advanced users. Screwing this up will brick your device and it will not be covered under warranty. Your product is always tested and shipped with the latest firmware from Strobepro. We will also upgrade firmware for free at the Calgary warehouse.

Firmware upgrading requires a PC or Mac. Please note G3 Software supports Mac but only for selected products. Use PC for full support. You will also need a Micro USB cable or a USB-C cable for the newer products.

1.To add the option of wireless IDC.Fn-ID

2.To add the ON/OFF option of SLAVE mode indicatorC.Fn-Sv LED

3.To add the function that the flash can be triggered by pressing the TEST button when being attached to camera.

The customer can set RF ID. Operation: press the CH and GR button simultaneously and power it on to enter the RF ID setting interface. Short or long press the CH button to add the ID value while short or long press the GR button to decrease. Power off the flash trigger after 5s, and ID value can be set and saved. Then, power it on, and the ID value will affect RF reception.

I have this new trigger that is a Leica version. But it does not work with M11. It does work with SL2, SL2-S. I asked Godox if they could fix this issue and they asked me to send video and I did that. So TTL, HSS does not work with Godox flashed (I have AD300 pro), HSS would be nice.

Thanks for contacting Godox.

According to your description and video, we helped you feedback this problem to our technicians.

We're sorry that they don't have any solution for this problem right now, really sorry for the inconvenience.

But they will try their best to do more test to see if there is a way for this in the future, which we are not sure so far.

I've emailed Godox 3 or 4 months in a row. Once per month. Each time asking them to add M11 support. I always get a really nice reply that says the engineers don't have a M11 to test with. I've given up waiting for them to support the M11. They clearly don't care to do it.

I really dont understand this. Why dont they just ask Leica to send one M11 to them? I asked for a SL2-S and got it to try it out. This is win-win, just loan one unit for 1-2 month or whatever it takes. This is a showstopper at least for some users..

I haven't heard anything. I've sent at least half a dozen emails over the past year to "servicesupport at godox.com" before I gave up. My first email was January 6th, 2023. The last answer I received:

all this talk of not working had me concerned. I bought the proII trigger for leica and an AD200 to use with my M10 for a shoot back in October. worked flawlessly! traded up to an M11 and updated it to the 2,02 firmware the day after it was released. Hooked it up this morning and it works flawlessly.

I was able to get the problem solved. In order to resolve the driver error for my flash, I had to temporarily turn off driver signing on the computer. Then, the computer would allow the driver on the flash to be recognized, and I was able to update the firmware. Now, the flash will fire in i-TTL mode.

2. Flash Settings in the X-T3 defaulted to TTL always despite all my Godox Flashes are Manual-only. Tried switching to M but it always defaults back to TTL mode. And the mode switches back and forth occasionally on its own. This results in a slight delay when pressing the shutter button.

It is a frustrating problem that placing a Godox flash or trigger on a Fuji camera will not allow the camera to be in anything but TTL mode. As far as I know it is the same for all Fuji cameras, and all Godox triggers except for X1T that reportedly has a firmware that fixes the problem.

I got a sad response from Godox, but at least we know now that this issue will not be fixed. From this point on I can not regard Fujifilm and Godox to be actually compatible. (Many users will off course never feel this is a problem, but for shooting very timing specific action (think skateboarding or dancing) a delay to the shutter (because camera is always in TTL) is no joke.)

The Godox AD300 Pro is a 300Ws pocket round flash that is battery-powered, TTL enabled, has High Speed Sync and is the size of a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 camera lens. It is also known as Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro monolight. Its versatility makes it ideal for both photo and video use with more on the latter with a bi-color modeling light and a quiet fan. Compared to the AD200 Pro, Godox AD300 Pro has a faster recycle time at up to a second.

A built-in 2.4 GHz wireless X system makes this strobe compatible with other 2.4 GHz X trigger systems. It is also TTL enabled with HSS at speeds up to 1/8000s. Other features include auto-sensing, a large dot-matrix LCD, switching radio, dual optical slave modes, and many custom functions. The flash strobe weighs over 1.4kg with a battery.
