Dear Mr. Fripp,
I work for Guidehouse at our office in France. We are currently conducting an in-depth-review of alternative power system models for one of our European energy utilities who are interested in expanding their modelling capabilities. Switch is one of the models we are benchmarking alongside other offerings and we need to make sure that we have correctly identified all the important model features. Furthermore we will need up-to-date information on the general commercial terms. Would you, or one of your European colleagues (please feel free to direct us to a European contact if more appropriate), be available in the coming days for a meeting via Teams? A call towards the end of this week or during the next week would be perfect for us.
We are now composing a list of questions that we will send once we setup our call to help us make the most of our discussion.
Kind regards,

Hi Lucie,
Sure, I’d be happy to talk. You can schedule an appointment via https://calendly.com/matthiasfripp. If you can’t find a slot that works, let me know and I’ll see if I can find more time.
Switch is available as open-source software at no cost, including for commercial projects. We request citation of the model in published work that uses the model, but that’s about it (plus the usual open-source distribution rules). A few key distinguishing of Switch: it allows multiple separate investment steps in future years, so it can model a complete transition rather than a single-step outcome; it uses sample days rather than continuous series of days to evaluate operational decisions during each investment period, which reduces the model size a lot (allowing for the multiple investment periods without running out of memory or time); it can include a lot of operational detail if desired, including unit commitment and spinning reserve allocation in addition to standard investment and dispatch choices; it has a modular structure that allows you to adjust the amount of detail you include, e.g., using unit commitment or not, using different degrees of detail for the hydro system, adding custom components, etc.
Looking forward to talking.
