You’re Invited: Stevens Institute of Technology to host TEDx Event Focused on Research for Societal Good on Tuesday, April 15, 3-5pm

If interested please respond to Lina Zeldovich lina_ze...@yahoo.com

On Tuesday, April 15, Stevens Institute of Technology will host a TEDx event with a special focus on research that’s driving societal good. Highlighted subjects range from novel ways of preserving eyesight and relearning the lost art of building social connections, to issues of privacy in the AI era to the under-appreciated value of “being a mess.” The six sessions, led by Stevens faculty, will dive into these topics of 21st century life, health and wellbeing. We would love for you to join us at TEDx: Interpreting the Role of Research in Accelerating Societal Good.

The event will open with Teaching Assistant Professor Michelle Y. Burke discussing why we should put our phones away and speak with our classmates and neighbors. It will be followed by Professor of Biomedical Engineering Jennifer J. Kang-Mieler’s presentation of innovative ways to preserve eyesight. Later, Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Klein will discuss why the chaotic and messy sides of college experience is an opportunity to embrace imperfections and discover your true self—and what the science of psychology says about it. As the event progresses, Assistant Professor of Information Systems Jordan Suchow will speak about coincidental generation—a phenomenon in which AI may generate an image or video that by sheer chance looks or sounds so much like a particular person or organization that it causes confusion—and what it means for your privacy rights. To view the complete list of sessions, please visit Stevens TEDx Page

The event will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 3-5pm at the Debaun Auditorium located on Stevens campus. The event is open to the public and will also be streamed live.

Best,

David
