Help us make SWINY even better in 2024!

Take our membership survey and renew your membership today!

SWINY—the metropolitan area’s leading professional and social hub for science, medical, and healthcare writers, editors, and PIOs—has long been proud to offer a range of distinctive, diverse programs for the community, plus special benefits for members.

Our Board is the driving force, committed to creating timely, provocative, expert-centered events, often in unusual locations. Our monthly programs are designed to:

  • stretch our minds and perspective
  • provide fresh story ideas
  • introduce expert sources
  • improve our craft
  • and importantly—enable us to mingle with peers

Even after the pandemic altered our universe, we maintained an almost weekly offering of interviews, via Zoom, with scientists, healthcare specialists, journalists, book authors and editors.

We are glad to return to in-person events. Our recent interview with Dr. Andrew Solomon attracted 65 people, showing we are all eager to connect beyond Zoom and be with friends and colleagues again.

As we work to increase our offerings in 2024, we want to hear from you about what you would like to see from SWINY. Please fill out our membership survey below. This will help us design events and programs that will be most useful for our community.

And if you haven't renewed your membership for 2024, now is the time! Membership is just $30 per year snd brings some very practical benefits, from advance news on job openings to discounts on select SWINY events. If you attend more than one event a year, the membership fee practically pays for itself.

We welcome your ideas. Input from SWINY members is especially valuable for developing live events. Is there an event you’d like SWINY to organize? Come by the next Board meeting to share it with us. And we always welcome new Board members. New members enrich SWINY’s capabilities. You are welcome to attend a meeting to see if it appeals to you. You’re also welcome to talk with current Board members about questions you might have.

For me, being a SWINY Board member has enhanced my life in multiple ways. It has increased my visibility, added a distinctive credential, and given me the opportunity to attend both international and national meetings. It has also enabled me to interact with journalists and PIOs across the world and led to job opportunities. And I’ve gained valuable organizing and leadership skills.
