The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT is currently accepting entries for our Victor K. McElheny Award for Local and Regional Science Reporting?

There is no entry fee, and the award is open to freelance and staff journalists working in any medium — newspapers, magazines, digital, broadcast, podcast — provided the outlet’s primary mission is to serve a local or regional audience. We're especially interested in impactful reporting addressing issues important to local communities.

The winning journalist or team of journalists will receive a $10,000 prize, and the submission deadline is January 31, 2026. Interested journalists can learn more about the award, see a list of previous winners, and begin a submission by visiting our Victor K. McElheny Award page.
