Is legitimate. I did it last summer.

We are researchers from Northwestern University exploring how computational tools can help tech journalists navigate the landscape of existing news coverage, learn about the newest research, and discover what hasn't been covered or what angles are unexplored.

We're inviting practicing tech journalists to participate in our online study where you'll help us evaluate a tool we're developing called ‘News Compass.’ The study involves a total commitment of about 3 hours, occurring over a period of 2-3 weeks:

● a 60-minute onboarding session (via Zoom),

● 2 weeks of flexible tool use with brief weekly surveys (the tool is online),

● a 60-minute exit interview (also via Zoom)

You'll get to try out the tool and share your insights on how it could support your work in finding newsworthy research about tech and computing. All study activities will be conducted online. We will compensate you with an Amazon gift card worth USD 100 for your time!

If you're interested in participating or learning more, please fill out this form: https://tinyurl.com/newscompass

Feel free to email us with any questions about our project. If you know other journalists who might be interested, we'd really appreciate you sending this invitation to them.

Thank you!
