to Swindon Oxfam
Hello,

Before Xmas I asked to represent the Swindon Oxfam Group at a meeting organised by SCAN  - Swindon Climate Action Network - to formulate a response from community groups to Swindon Borough Council's Transport Vision consultation - in the context of Oxfam's campaigning on Climate Change.

Attached is a short document which sets out the SCAN-coalition response to the council's proposals (which can be found somewhere on the Council's website incidentally).
We as a group need to decide whether we are prepared to put our name to this statement.

I have a few concerns about the (perceived) relevancy of this to Oxfam's work and whether it is (potentially) too political for us to be involved with. I am trying to seek clarification from Oxfam on this.

In the meantime, if you have a few minutes, could you have a look through the response and let me know:
a) whether we should put our name to this statement
b) if their are any additions/ ommisions / changes we should suggest
c) if you are personally interested in getting further involved with this and representing Swindon Oxfam at further meetings, as I'm a bit pressed for time!

Any comments really appreciated,

thanks,

Emma

Hi

Saw the document. It wouId be good to get involved in but it may be a
bit over our heads as none of us are from an environmentalist
background so the voice that we put forward in meetings maybe weak and
may leave Oxfam as just a good name to the campaign than having any
real impact on the changes. Feel free to disagree but i don't think
that we could get too involved.

In relation to the document they mention that as a result of the
changes there would be a reduction in obesity - i would leave that out
cos i don't think it fits.

Hope that is some use,

Carmel

Thanks Carmel, that is pretty much my feeling on the issue.
If Oxfam clear it I am minded to add our name to the document, but withdraw from the process slightly!

Dissenters please speak now!
