Hello,

please see below, message re  Climate Change campaigning from Oxfam South West Office.

Emma

I am sure you are preparing for Fairtrade Fortnight right now, there is
a
huge amount going on in the SW. See Oxfam's focus on Fairtrade Woman-
http://www.myspace.com/fairtradewoman do join in!  Meanwhile, before
that
starts, I thought you would like to know about some urgent actions that
are
needed  now to help stop global warming which is already having a
disastrous effect on the poorest people on our planet.

Taking action on Climate Change
I am contacting you as a  fellow climate campaigner because February
2008
is a crucial period to keep pushing for more urgent and stronger action
to
stop catastrophic climate change. Climate Change is an issue of social
justice as well as an environmental disaster. The UK needs to not only
cut
its emissions but to help poor countries, who will suffer the most, to
adapt to climate change. The UK Govt is still consulting on the UK
Climate
Bill , but the current draft is not strong enough!. The Stop Climate
Chaos
Coalition and its membership are pressing MP's in Parliament to press
for
greater action see  http://www.icount.org.uk/get_involved/384.asp for
full
details or see encl PDF for more info on actions)

Action with MP's - press for a stronger UK Climate Bill
Show your MP you care and send them a Valentines Day card asking them
to
make a commitment to emissions cuts of at least 80% by 2050, instead of
the
current 60%.

A new Early Day Motion 736 on the Climate Change Bill, has your MP
   signed? - ask him/her!

(See attached file: Show your MP some love this Valentine.pdf)
New film on release from February 15th - a chance to campaign/do
media
   locally

+Coming up in the future is....
Stop Climate Chaos Week of Action: 30th March to 5th April! (5th April
Day
of Action). This is a excellent opportunity to highlight climate change
to
politicians, the public and the media. The SCC Coalition has 50+ member
organizations, why not get together with others to organise local
activities? Members: http://www.stopclimatechaos.org/about_us/9.asp
