Swift and Musto sailors (Ron Radko, please forward to your sailors),

It's Fall and time to plan for next year's sailing.  I know it seems early, but there's much to be done to set this up and we will need to choose a venue by the end of October to make the necessary arrangements.

So, here's my proposed process:

(1)  I'm going to give you a list of possible venues and approximate dates.  The dates include either the specific date we could sail at this venue or the range of dates which we think might work.  Please respond to this list no later than October 24 with the sites that you could commit to and would like to sail at.  If you have additional sites, you are welcome to add them in your reply.  If you see an additional site in a reply and want to add it to your list of places to which you could commit, send me another e-mail.

(2)  I will total up the responses and submit a final list by October 26.  I'll need your final commitment by October 31 so that we can move forward.

It goes without saying that these events are better with more boats.  It is also true that we all learn from each other and become better sailors racing each other.  There's really no glory here, just fun and a chance to improve your skills.  We want to make this event fun for you and for family or significant others you may want to bring along.

Here is the first list (in no particular order)

(1) Vancouver, B.C. (Jericho Sailing Center) in June, July, or August
(2) Port Townsend, WA in June, July, or August
(3) Fort Desoto, FL in April
(4) Seattle, WA at NOOD in late May
(5) San Francisco (St.Francis YC) in late March or late October
(6) Kaneohe, Oahu, HI with I14s (I don't have the dates but am informed there will be containers in San Francisco and Seattle that could have some space available)
(7) Huntington Lake, CA in July
(8) Cascade Locks, OR in July
(9) Richmond, CA in June, July, or August

We hope you can commit to one or more of these events!

Yes, I would also be willing to help organize

(6) Kaneohe, Oahu, HI with I14s
Would need to know estimated shipping cost before I could commit... and if there will be any east coast / centeral US container.

I have a hard time justify driving 3 days to the west coast 2 years in a row, if I do come out I would want to make sure it was windy venue. I would be very tempted by Cascade Locks, OR and Huntington Lake, CA.

All of this is of course pending if I still have a boat. My boat is still for sale... call me if you are interested.

Thanks,
Keith Councell

Chris,
Thank you for getting the discussion going about the venue.  Even though Cascade Locks, OR is only 45 minutes from my floating home in Portland, my preference would be the following:

(1) Vancouver, B.C. (Jericho Sailing Center) in June, July, or August
(2) Port Townsend, WA in June, July, or August
(3) Seattle, WA at NOOD in late May
(4) Huntington Lake, CA in July
(5) Cascade Locks, OR in July
(6) San Francisco (St.Francis YC) in late March or late October
(7) Richmond, CA in June, July, or August
(8) Fort Desoto, FL in April

I hope we get good participation and look forward to helping make the event successful.

Hello all,

With my new job I don't see making it to the Nationals in the next 2-3 years.  I feel guilty keeping the boat in the trailer, I only made it onto the water once last summer.

Sorry to hear you can't make it for that long. We'll have to see what we
can do about getting you on the water more often. I have a friend who is
finishing off a cabin at Bear Lake. We'll have to all get together more
next summer. Maybe we can get David out too.
