Just want to share this. I have just finished my new cover. Not a professional job but I think it will protect the boat. I don't want to go through a restoration again!
This is basically a copy of the design Mike and Ian have with a couple modifications. For anyone contemplating making their own cover; be forewarned. It's more work than expected.
There must be something fundamentally wrong with me. I always under estimate the amount of time to complete a project! Anyways, this is one more of my "Covid Year" projects off my list.

PS. the straps over the boom will be replaced with wider webbing and of higher quality

That answers the question I just asked. Nice work. I think we all underestimate the time it takes to get a project done. Especially when it requires design creativity. On just two fingers, I can count the number of times (out of hundereds of projects) that my estimate was accurate!

Thanks Philip. I fear I tend to underestimate the amount of time to fabricate more than others.

Fabrication was done by laying heavy paper over the boat and making a paper pattern (shown here folded in half). The fabric was ordered online. I stitched the whole cover with generous overhangs and then added the features. The plastic tube with straps over the boom was done to "tent" the material slightly but not add "windage" area.

The one thing you do get with doing it yourself is triple stitching all seems. As I said, the first one is a learning process. A few more iterations would make a really great cover. I am not trying to discourage others from making their own cover. Just want them to be aware it is quite a bit of work.

Although now that you have done one, the second one would go twice as fast. maybe someone will buy one from you :)
Don't throw away those paper patterns. Someone will need them! - Philip
