David Lindo promotes Swift nest boxes in a new article in the RSPB
magazine! We need more and more publicity to get everyone out there
thinking that this is a Good Thing to do, and this helps! Can you do
something similar where you live, maybe in the local paper? Best wishes,
Edward

Hi Edward and all,

I did an article in our local community paper which was well received. It was in Welsh although I wrote it in English and my dear wife translated it! Not a problem for you lot over the border!
Actually it was good fun as it encouraged me to read up a bit more about swifts oh and your 'brainchild' 'Swift Conservation' was a great source of information Edward.

I don't think you would have to be an 'expert' to write an article. I am certainly not but I have gained the accolade of the 'swift man'! God help me!

Actually I wonder if there is 'truly' a swift expert in the world? Edward you are pretty close to the mark I think but who is actually the 'world authority' on the Common Swift (Apus apus)? Andrew Lack maybe. The son of the legendary David Lack?

All the best

Elfyn

Hi Elfyn, Without any doubt THE world authority on the Common Swift was the late Erich Kaiser of Kronberg, who had a 90-strong colony in his own home, with 17 nests under constant observation via plexiglass panels, and who devised electronic data-collection systems recording their daily lives, and who compiled more data on Swifts than possibly anyone else ever. And with him,  Susanne Åkesson of the University of Lund in Southern Sweden, who with her team has been researching Swifts in depth for over twenty years, who works with aerodynamic engineers to study just how Swifts manage to fly as they do, and who pioneered using data tracking devices on them to find out their migration patterns.  All the best, Edward
