Morning all

Having difficulty replying from within the group to specific requests.  Just joined and not sure if I'm going through the "right motions".

HB-T asked for information on the use of Swift bricks.  On the North Milton Estate in New Milton, Hampshire, Hampshire Swifts have been surveying the breeding bird colony since 2020 (not a complete survey that year).

I attach, for all to see, our report from 2024 and it shows the use being made of the artificial spaces installed by New Forest District Council following a local protest, when existing holes/nest sites were blocked for renovations in 2011/2012.  The subsequent uptake has been amazing - 71 apparently occupied Swift nests in 2024 and, most important 100% occupancy of the Swift bricks.

That is very interesting.

We have had great success with occupancy of nest bricks in our cottage:  most recently in AfS S-bricks, 2 of 3 occupied within 2 years (picture attached).

Also 9 out of 10 Cambrdge systems occupied; and 5 out of 6 Schwegler 25s in the first year;  At our community centre, 4 out of 4 Schwegler 1As occupied , where we played calls - picture shows them before the wall was rendered.

Our next challenge is to monitor 50 bricks that have been incorporated at 1:I ratio in a small new housing estate, after we obtained a planning condition. The contractor installed Manthorpes.

regards
