Hi Lorna, BBC London got in touch with us at Swift Conservation www.swift-conservation.org and asked to be briefed on some photogenic projects we had done in inner London -  a bit too late to see the actual Swifts as they were just leaving then. So we showed them our most recent projects, at Westminster Abbey Choir School, in the 900 year old garden just beside the Abbey, and at a big apartment complex in West Hampstead, where we have put up about 50 nest places and have perhaps the biggest population of Swifts living in the area. They were delighted and came round and filmed the Choir School nest boxes and staff, and also filmed the residents who have Swifts in nest boxes and their eaves, and me too. They are coming back to film the actual Swifts when they are hyper-active next Summer, so Swifts get two bites of the Cherry. I am being sent a video of the broadcast, I will attempt to pass it on to SLN participants! Very best wishes, Edward

Results from this year's droppings and bolus samples. The bolus are
fantastic because the insects are whole.

Dear Colleague

As most of you will hopefully be well aware, over the past 18 months,
Surrey County Council has been developing a Local Nature Recovery
Strategy (LNRS) for the county in partnership with organisations, local
communities and individuals across Surrey.

The LNRS is a new spatial strategy which aims to identify locations to
improve nature and provide other environmental benefits, such as carbon
sequestration, flood regulation and access to nature-rich spaces where
this is most needed for health and wellbeing.

The LNRS will also set out priorities for nature's recovery, map the
most valuable existing areas for nature and identify and map specific
measures for creating and improving habitat for nature and wider
environmental goals.

The draft strategy including a statement of biodiversity priorities, the
proposed list of priority species and a detailed local habitat map was
published earlier this year and Surrey County Council now needs your
feedback to help shape the strategy and to tell us where your priorities
are for nature recovery across Surrey. The consultation closes on *25
September 2025* however there is still time for you to have your say
before thefinal strategy is published in early 2026.

Further details and links to the various documents and the Local Habitat
Map can be found below.

Regards

Alistair
