A bit late in the day perhaps, been without internet for a few days up here
in Aberdeenshire!
I hand paint my own ceramic pendants with swifts, swallows and martins! I
know this isn't earrings but you never know i might make some someday! I
have limited edition art prints and greetings cards (and swift christmas
cards too!) printed from my artwork plus other small gifts swift related.
All in my etsy shop : https://colourworxart.etsy.com

Hi,
Has anyone got advice on installing Swift nestboxes or creating holes in a
soffit board for Grade 2 listed buildings?
Have you run into any problems?
Any specific things you have had to do or not been allowed to do?
thanks,
Mark

Thanks for asking, Annie.
I think we got the gist of the proposed changes. As I said, it very much depends on whether these will be statutory or non-statutory so let’s all keep a close eye on this one.

Hi Laurinda, all
I asked the Head of Asset Management at Raven Housing Trust if they subscribed to Planning Magazine: they do not. He too mentioned the price!

Hi Laurinda/ all,
I don't have a subscription to Planning unfortunately,
I used to but it's expensive (£50 per month).
The summary by yourself and Carl is accurate and thorough, to the best of my knowledge. Yes this could be a step forward or a step back!
If a consultation is announced, then I'll share here (unless Hannah leads on it).
All the best,

Hi
I'm posting for the first time, so I hope this replies in the right chain- aprox costs for box grants….
Our new little Swift group won a Southwark Cleaner Greener Safer award to put boxes up in S London. I applied for both CGS and Neighbourhood fund, but was passed to CGS with the (larger) amount we'd pitched for NF which had included gardening work.
I initially pitched for 10 boxes after leafleting my road and (initially) having interest from only 10 people.
I found Darren Long (South based roofer DLong roofing) who gave a street price of £35 per fit for a minimum of 10 jobs. He comes Sat mornings generally for box fittings fyi to those near enough to use him.
John Stimpson did bulk order of boxes about £24 each plus delivery, delivery about £25 for 26 boxes.
In the end I actually got £1335 and this allowed us to do 27 boxes (interest increased!) with neighbours happily paying a (£15 each) to make up the gap between actual cost and the grant. Many then donated that gap, which is also worth keeping in mind to start a charity pot for more boxes.
It was a wait for the grant and I relied on neighbours being fantastic in donating the fitting price and awaiting reimbursement, also buying the boxes myself initially, so keep that in mind I'd say. Pay out on grants may be slow and paid on proof of receipts and project completion.
Hope that helps.
Good luck
Amy

Surrey County Council - Draft Local Nature Recovery Strategy released
Annie G <amboyce...@gmail.com>: Aug 04 08:56PM +0100
Hello all
The above were released today and we are delighted that swifts have made it
to the priority list as have recommendations on swift bricks, boxes,
mainitaining and restoring nest sites. We must wait for the final, but this
is significant news.
All can be seen here:
https://surreynaturerecovery.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/v3/lnrs-formal-consultation?step=step1
(I have screen shot the priority tables for ease of reference, see
attached)
The draft consultation is open until 25th September 2025.
We (Banstead Swifts) were also very pleased to be asked to submit our
'Nature Recovery' story for the draft report LNRS Description Strategy Area
Draft, which may be seen on page 40.
Mike Priaulx is key to swifts making this draft priority list. Mike
provided prompt, expert response and counsel to me. That prepped me to feel
confident enough to go to the workshop and have a follow up Teams call with
the Project Lead.
Thanks Mike!
Best regards
Annie & Barry

Approximate cost of installing swift box or brick
Tony D <tonyj...@gmail.com>: Aug 04 03:49PM +0100
Hi, I am thinking of applying for funding for a project to get swift
nesting boxes or bricks installed locally. Does anyone have a ball
park figure for the typical costs involved? If they do that would be
incredibly helpful. I know it will vary widely depending on many factors
but a very rough figure is better than none for project costing purposes.
Many thanks
Tony Dobbs
