We contacted Surrey County Council to ask permission to affix some small metal plates signs to lamposts.

The response was:

You will need to have the following documentation ready to send to us. We will request these once we receive your application:

• public liability insurance to a minimum value of £10 million
• contractor's certificates of competency
• a location map showing the lamp columns you wish to use

We did not pursue the idea any further. Your council may of course have very different guidance.

We investigated and the cost would have been prohibitive. A suggestion was made that we devise a QR code that would direct interested folk to a website on swifts, boxes etc. We thought that this might be a cheaper alternative and could possibly be rolled out across our area. Has anyone got any experience with QR codes (they look quite easy to generate) and whether we might have issues putting them up on buildings, lamp posts etc? Graham Cowley <grahamandj...@gmail.com>: Aug 23 03:54PM +0100 Here in Church Stretton we still have a pair of swifts in a nest box, first noticed mid July (but might’ve been going in earlier). They did have chicks but not sure now.
