Hi all,

Here at House Martin Conservation UK and Ireland, we are now holding regular exploratory meetings with the RSPB and their HM champion.

In last weeks discussion, the subject of swift conservation groups also encompassing HMs came up, and although I'm aware of several groups doing this, we'd like to compile a concise list of these groups.

Could you please let us know which of you do this?

You can also reply to this requst at con...@housemartinconservation.com

TIA!

Hampshire Swifts are doing that. We have just installed 125 double nest cups in NE Hants for HOS funded by SE Water. Just discussing the next phase. And we are also doing ones independent of that. We are also doing Starling boxes.

Hi Donzi
Yes, we are starting to support HMs too now. We've just installed 30 cups funded by South East Water and an additional six funded by our group.
Colonies are few and far between in East Kent, sadly. Usual reasons of dry springs in this corner of the country and lack of tolerance of course by people and the dreaded plastic soffits.
We'll be adding data to the HM mapper in due course.

Hi Ian,

The Bromley local RSPB Group are running a Swift Survey this year. I'll ask the surveyors to report any House Martins, too. In previous years' we've received the odd report, but not many.

We also try to get the local council to mandate Swift nest bricks in new developments. We can look at also asking for House Martin nests to be included in some of the larger new developments.

Regards,
Peter
