Hi Andrew,

I'd have no concerns about playing calls 2 miles away from your first site, or even 20m away.

I've only seen positive benefits of additional call locations, with more birds attracted and, for a communal bird, generally adding to the desirability of the neighbourhood.

I've not seen any evidence that it could be a distraction or cause confusion.

Good luck!

All the best,
Mike

New & Potential colonies - some advice please

In D&G we have a rural site that installed 8 nest boxes and a couple of callers in 2024 which they have been using as per timing advice morning and evening, they had a small amount of swift interest for a few days, then in 2025 2 birds stayed around for a couple of weeks. On Sunday 24th 2 swifts arrived and are now constantly around the house and garden and going in an out of the boxes, a 3rd swift appeared on 26th.
There is another location that also has installed boxes and a caller, this site is about 2 miles away from the site with the new arrivals.
Is it likely that running the caller at the 2nd site will distract / confuse the birds who have been attracted to the new site and would it be sensible not to use the caller at the 2nd site to let the birds establish themselves at the new site.
Many thanks
Andrew
