Dear Colleague
As most of you will hopefully be well aware, over the past 18
months, Surrey County Council has been developing a Local Nature
Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for the county in partnership with
organisations, local communities and individuals across Surrey.
The LNRS is a new spatial strategy which aims to identify
locations to improve nature and provide other environmental
benefits, such as carbon sequestration, flood regulation and
access to nature-rich spaces where this is most needed for
health and wellbeing.
The LNRS will also set out priorities for nature's recovery, map
the most valuable existing areas for nature and identify and map
specific measures for creating and improving habitat for nature
and wider environmental goals.
The draft strategy including a statement of biodiversity
priorities, the proposed list of priority species and a detailed
local habitat map was published earlier this year and Surrey
County Council now needs your feedback to help shape the
strategy and to tell us where your priorities are for nature
recovery across Surrey. The consultation closes on
25 September 2025 however there is still time for you to
have your say before the
final strategy is published in early 2026.
Further details and links to the various documents and the Local
Habitat Map can be found below.
Regards
Alistair
