Hi Ros,

I am coordinator for Wenhaston Swift Group in Easy Suffolk. This is the system used by one of our villagers. It seems very effective and the Wilder Wenhaston WhatsApp group has been able to see the progress of a nesting pair and the successful fledging of their two swiftlets this year all courtesy of the remote camera box.

It has a wired power supply but the video signal is via wi-fi. If you are siting the camera a fair distance from your house, I suggest that you first check whether you have got wi-fi coverage at that location using your phone. Also, you’ll need to run the power cable (low voltage) somehow. As an option you can get power cable extenders.

 

We chose to add the optional LED light unit – this turns off automatically at night. When it is on, it doesn’t appear to bother the birds.

Action for Swifts recommend installing the camera beyond the nest cup so it captures the comings and goings at the entrance as well as the nest itself. I bought two of their extended model 30s for Penrith Library and like the design.
