Hi Everyone,
I've been in touch with Lee Barber who runs the Nest Record Scheme (NRS) at the BTO.

It occurred to me that there must be so many swift enthusiasts amongst our members with nest cams who already record, or, would perhaps be interested in recording data relating to egg laying, hatching dates, chick growth and development, fledging success etc - all data which would be so useful to submit to the BTO online, via their Nest Record Scheme?

Does anyone know if this is done by many people?

Lee is very keen to advertise the NRS via the SLN and to receive these records if we can get our group members to sign up to participating (it's free) ..the data is then used to help inform swift conservation.

For interest, here's a link on how to record a nest from the BTO/NRS website;

Is anyone interested in spreading the word?

Best wishes to everyone,
Ginny

I know a couple of swift enthusiasts do it but always good to have a reminder.

I found the system takes a bit of getting used to as well but there are demo videos….

A good way of collecting observations and contributing to the science of swifts and any other birds that use the boxes…

Thank you Alistair and Dick.

Still a very relevant article Dick and certainly gives a good explanation of the whys and wherefores of the NRS.
Of course no more actual cards anymore, though I quite liked using them, a good few years ago now!

Hopefully a few groups will  appeal to their 'nest cam' members to join the scheme and submit data.

Many thanks
Ginny

I've forwarded the link on to two members within the RSPB Bromley Local Group whose Swift nest boxes are regularly occupied.

Thank you Peter.
Hopefully the BTO will receive a few more swift nest records this year.

Best wishes
Ginny
