Hi everyone,
Has anyone made a leaflet/equivalent specifically for scaffolders/tradesmen regarding swift nesting sites and if so, would I be able to use it to distribute locally?
Best wishes, Hannah

Hi Hannah,
The pictures on Edward's website are what we thought might be a good idea quite a few years ago - things have moved on.
A summary of my views is here:
Much of the body of this is now out of date, so scroll down to the updates at the end.

There are many towers here:

The short answer is, to make a swift tower work needs a big commitment.

Hi Hannah,

At Hastings and Rother Swift Conservation Group, we haven't yet produced a leaflet re scaffolding/swift nesting sites.

However, Peta has produced a document (attached) that all are encouraged to fill in when this occurs, and how the accompanying Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 is interpreted in this situation.

Unfortunately, more police authorities are interpreting the law incorrectly resulting in losses of swift nest sites, either temporarily or permanently.

Hi Hannah

There’s this leaflet put together by Gary Walpole at the National Federation of Roofers, aimed at roofing companies.

Hi Ian
Can i ask you what are your thoughts/or to explain your sentence 'police authorities are interpreting the law incorrectly' in more detail?   I think i agree with you (!) as i have no joy with either WCO or police in any 'situations' where birds are denied access, and its on my mind to somehow address this.  Feel free to email me privately if you prefer.
Many thanks
Cally
